The drought has been very localized all across the state.

I'm still 15 inches behind for the year. And just west of me….on average. Hit or miss.

We've hunted our place in Burleson county 6 or so times this year. We've had 0 deer come to the feeder and we're hardly getting any pictures. I threw a decoy out this morning and had an 8 point come at it but I let it walk. In probably 4 sits, I've seen that buck and a yearling spike. Not even any does.

While in the stand this morning, any time the wind blew it sounded like it was hailing the acorns were falling so thick. One thing that drought did was cause a huge acorn crop. I think one issue is we aren't seeing the mature deer because they know they don't have to the leave the woods.
Our deer in Gonzales county rarely hit the feeders hard before the first good freeze takes out all the acorns.

October and November Hunting usually relies on finding where they are, catching moving deer in the rut is the best hunting in that time period. Later in December you can sit back in a nice warm box blind and hunt over the feeders and typically have plenty move in.

Mature bucks don't get mature by being stupid (at least outside of the rut, during the rut all bets are off).

You said that much more elegantly and nicely than I was going to.

My personal experience is there's usually effort and ability directly tied to success or what is seen.

I don't know, I'm not God.

I might have exaggerated "Amazing rain" but we got way more than the majority of South Texas. Random showers constantly. Brush has looked good all year. It looked Like spring out there in November.
