Is OP gonna come back?
Man, sure looks like y'all had quite the time while I was catching up on chores! Guess I pissed off the DT Homers... Some of y'all sure put a lot of stock in them.
Since some of y'all are anxiously awaiting my response, I'll oblige you...
The fact remains that I've had plenty of issues with DT (multiple stores in multiple cities over the last twenty years):
- failing to honor certificates and then trying to sell me certificates on the next set
- failing to honor certificates because I had dirt and mud on my tires and truck
- saying a tire is ruined but not willing to show me the damage
- trying to sell me larger-than-stock tires for my truck because "dude, I'm telling ya, they just look better" even after I said I wasn't interested
- saying a patch is improper because it was patched by another tire repair shop
- selling me a complete set of TPMS sensors that all failed within a year (no warranty) and then trying to sell me new ones that NOW come with a warranty at full price
- telling me they couldn't prorate a 55,000-mile tire that only had 20,000 miles on it because it measured under 4/32" of tread on the shoulder (not in the middle)
- taking phone calls and trying to make a sale to someone who didn't bother getting off their ass to come to the store while I'm standing at the counter with payment in hand
- giving me their "best bottom dollar price" only to offer to go lower after I say "thanks" and head for the door
- charging me the $2.50 disposal fee per tire even though I kept all four tires (fee is no longer State mandated, BTW)
- and now not allowing my wife to leave the store in her vehicle in the same condition as when she drove in without committing to buy a new tire from them.
Liability may dictate they're responsible for my safety. I say they "no thanks!" I'm skeptical that they even have my safety in mind. It's always all about the money. In my opinion, my wife should have had the freedom to leave in her car in the condition in which she arrived. If not being allowed to leave isn't akin to being held hostage, I don't know what is. Imagine if you went to a brake shop to get a quote on replacement and they told you that you couldn't leave after they looked at it, even though it worked when you got there. Or if you went to get your car inspected and they told you it wouldn't pass and that you couldn't leave until you let them fix it. No second opinion. No chance to work on it yourself. It's our car now!
Either way...good on them for sticking to their policy. I expect my employees to follow the rules as well. And good on y'all that agree with that policy to continue shopping there. We'll take our business elsewhere.
And for whoever was the rancher, I'm a farmer/rancher also, and work in the landfill business to boot. I'm no stranger to repairing and replacing tires of all kinds.
Flame away...
