Testing the waters here. Staff, let me know if this is off limits (though I think it should be okay considering I'm not trying to make any profit).
Over the last 9 months I've gone pretty far down the rabbit hole of fly tying, and at this point I think I've become fairly proficient. With my trout fly fishing season over for the year, my capacity to tie flies now exceeds my personal needs. I enjoy the hell out of it and would like to stay sharp until next summer by tying up some more bugs. Would anybody be interested in me tying up some trout flies for you? I'm not looking to make money, would only charge for approximate material cost and shipping.
My flies are generally going to be on par or better than what you can find in fly shops, and WAY better than the $0.95 flies you can find online. And they'll probably be cheaper. And they will use quality components (Tiemco or Firehole Sticks hooks, Whiting hackle, etc.). And they're tied by an Aggie sitting in Houston drinking Coors Light instead of a Nigerian sitting in Lagos drinking whatever Nigerians in a fly tying sweatshop drink.
It would work like this:
1) Tell me what you want. This could be anything like "tie me a dozen size 16 double wing caddises" or "tie me 6 random giant Galloup articulated streamers" or "tie me a dozen attractor nymphs in various sizes" or "I'm going to the Frying Pan River next July, tie me a variety pack of dry flies and terrestrials".
2) I tell you how long it will take me to tie and how much materials and shipping will cost
3) I tie and ship the flies and will take Venmo payment upon receipt
If anyone shows interest, I'll post my email to get in touch with me. Here are some of my bugs:
