Looking for some suggestions for a duck guide or outfitter that can put us on some mallards and/or wood ducks. Located in Houston, but realize that we will likely have to travel to find these birds.

Anyone have any experience or suggestions for a guide?

Dang, $550 for a morning duck hunt at Pintail. That's steep. Rates seem to have really gone up the last couple of years. Remember them being closer to $250 - $350

Not there....

Most services are looking for hunters to stay in the lodge, eat, etc. to make more revenue and a more upscale hunt. that's where the corp money happens.

Give Brian Fischer a call. Best guide in SETX. I've known him all my life

You still guiding hunts?

I know the OP said mallards or woodies but if they're looking for a hunt near Houston, I'd imagine hunting with you would be a good option.

I hear they shoot some Mallards off the trinity but I've only seen 2 green heads hunting from El Campo down to the coast the last 9 years. Only a handful get smoked every year on the club out of several thousand ducks… I'm pretty sure those are resident/local mallards that get mixed up with the migrating birds too.

They still shooting green heads at moody ranch? I am pretty sure they have a bunch of woodies too. Might not be a bad option.

Good luck!

I'm not sure that's still Byron's number. At least not the one I have.

It's like no one noticed he said Mallards and Wood ducks. You may pop one or two if you're lucky down south the way weather is these days during duck season but if you want green heads, get to Oklahoma, Kansas, or Arkansas at the very least.

That is Brian's number. Byron went out on his own with some other friends of mine. He would be a good person to call as well

I appreciate the recommendations so far, but we are looking to get on mallards or wood ducks specifically.

Yea still guiding but don't get but a hand full of mallards or woodies on the prairie. My lease off the Trinity River is different story.

Brian has some flooded property leased off the Trinity around Anahuac that gets a ton of mallards and woodies

I can definitely get you on some woodies. Mallards are scarce around Houston proper, we did kill a few last year in the late season on our property in Rosenberg. More than likely some local neighborhood ducks that took a wrong turn. As far as woodies go, we have a purpose built wood duck pond in Columbus that's on a well. Typically shoot limits of woodies there, best opportunity for a trophy woody. Give me a shout, Capt. Andy Duck-Tails Guide Service. FB and IG. PM me if you'd like my phone number.

Redleg DOES kill their fair share of mallards. They are a well-run operation with a ton of land.

This page looks like it hasn't been updated in eons - and I say this - I went around 06 and it was a very nice set up / close to Houston and he has the duck species you are looking for. It's worth a call -

Aren't goign to find greenheads where Pintail hunts though.

You'll absolutely destroy teal, pintails, wigeon, etc. but I've never once seen a greenhead on their rice paddies. Need to find more timber to hunt for those.
