Things with engines are cool. The sounds they make, the stuff they move, it's just awesome. Cars, trucks, mowers, tractors, trains, planes .... if it burns fuel and makes cool noises I love it. This thread is to appreciate all the fun stuff.

I'll kick us off, I love my Zero Turn mower. When I go through knee high grass and you can feel the power of the engine vibrating the whole mower and knocking the grass down. Awesome.

Got my first diesel anything a little over a year ago. Indeed, pretty cool.

That's a solid machine right there! What implements you picked up for it? That shredder you have is a lot of fun. Pushing down small trees with the bucket. Talk about a good time right there

I am all about Marine engines. The feel of a 250HP outboard pushing a 24 foot cat across a smooth glass bay is one I long for in my life daily. I also love a truck with a throaty V8 and hammering that accelerator. Metallica had it right.

You can judge a man by the total number of spark plugs in all his engines. I think I'm at 20, not counting wife's car

That sounds like a real blast. I've never be in control of a boat before but I can totally see the appeal. My daily is a 5.7L V8 and my weekender is a turbo 4. Very different sounds, but both enjoyable in their own ways

If we count cylinders, personally at 45 running, another 20 in projects, recently sold 16 more. So 81 about 45 days ago

How about radial engines? Talk about a unique and amazing sound. I went to the CAF Wing in Houston a while back and got to check out all their planes. It was a neat experience

I hope so! I'm saving all my good ones for later. I could talk engines with like minded people all day

Anyone in CS from 2005-2009 may have heard this rolling around town. I would put the Volkswagen 12v VR6 in my top 3 favorite engine sounds.

2017 Cushman Diesel that I picked up in a Ritchie Bros auction

2017 Mahindra 2655 that I stole from a guy I work with. More tractor than I need but it was too good to pass up. Grapple came from the auction as well. Haven't gotten to use it yet, need to get my 3rd function set up.

Mid 90s KX65. It's knee high to a grasshopper and will pick the wheel up in 3rd gear with me riding it. It's impossible not to laugh and pucker when it hits the powerband because a bike this small has no business going as fast as it does.

How do turbines stack up? Neither spark plugs nor cylinders?

Great pickup, would pass anything on the road.

Except for a gas station.

Diesel is already 20% cheaper to drive on fuel cost per mile, even with insane diesel prices

I think I'm at 36 cylinders but I would have to do a lap in the barn to see what I'm forgetting. That doesn't count weedwacker, trash pump, chainsaws, generators, etc. only counted stuff I can ride

I love engines that have recognizable sounds; ones that you don't even have to look up to recognize, whose frequencies reverberate and carry for a distance. 2 Cylinder John Deere tractors are a perfect example. Radial engine warbirds fall into that category. Split manifolds on old chevy stove bolts or in flathead Fords of similar vintage. One of my favorites from this group is the 2 stroke Detroit diesel. 8V71 318 Detroit is a great example. If you were at the elevator, you could hear one when it left the field miles away...

Great. Hoping to have seen the last of the magneto problems. Incredible machines coming out now.

Been racing outboards since the 1980's. Nothing like " flying" a V-pad performance boat at 90 plus with 6" of hull in the water.
The wife and I restored a numbers matching 1970 GTO Judge with a Ram Air III 400 about 16 years ago. There still is nothing like a high octane av- gas eating big block's sound.
I pity our younger generation that never got to experience the muscle car era. Now some say how much " fun" a Tesla is. They have no idea .

Amazing footage below. Speaking of engine noise, watch at least through the part where it lifts off the runway, and listen to the change in the sound.

Oddly enough, no one has as yet posted an image of their "beloved" string trimmer.

Might need a different thread for those.
