Before I get roasted, I tried doing a search for an answer to this question.

I want to mix some Remedy and diesel in a one gallon hand sprayer for spot spraying. At what ratio do I mix it, and do I need to add any H2O?

What's your target species? Check tamu brushbusters and backcalculate your rates.

I use it in spot spray applications many times a year, or at most in 3 gallon applications for mesquite.

For basal, mix 25% Remedy, 75% diesel. ie 1 qt Remedy, 3 qts diesel for 1 gal mix..

I thought it was 15% for smooth bark mesquite

Remedy uses a vegetable-oil carrier, hence the use of diesel for dilution, and no H2O.
We spot spray honey locust and mesquite on a regular basis, get some decent life out of the basic 1 or 2 gallon pump sprayers.

I'm a cheap SOB, so I mix 1 pint of Remedy (61% triclopyr) into a gallon of diesel and get 90%+ kill rates on just about everything I basally spray. So that's about 11% chemical in the mix.

A&M has always recommended a 25% solution, but I've done my own experiments on mostly mesquite (but also hackberry, elm, and honey locust) over the past 8 years in Central Texas have and settled on 11% as being extremely effective.

Have fun. Give your mesquites what they deserve for being so damn invasive.

I've always recommended 3:1 ratio (75/25%) but have also used 4:1 with success. In my experience, basal oil does give better results than diesel.

25% Remedy, 75% Diesel in a Dawn Dishwater detergent bottle. The kind with the pull out nozzle.

Doesn't take much on the cut cambium layer and the Dawn bottle is so simple & handy to use.

Sprayer makes more sense if basal spraying intact brush

If you're going to use cut stump, kill will be much better if you apply the 75/25 mix within a few minutes of cutting the tree down. Natural oils in the sap seal the tree and make the long term kill lower. I can't remember the study but was within 5-10 mins of the original cut.

Not to derail too bad, but what do you guys do for mesquites (less than 2" slick bark) underneath or very close to a huge live oak? I am thinking either:

1) cut with loppers and pant on remedy diesel with foam brush;

2) use Sendera on the leaves?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Remedy will interact with the oak.. I would stick with Sendero foliar.

Will remedy "sit" once mixed? Roundup tends to gum up.

Yep, agree with this 100%. I've sprayed small mesquite, sparingly, with sendero foliar when around old live oaks. Definitely avoid diesel/remedy even as a cut stump paint.

Have always been careful to mind the wind and not allow any spray to drift onto the live oaks. Have been told it will only cause local wilt/death to the leaves it contacts and not the entire ok, but I'm not testing that statement.
