If you travel down to Encinal, Tx, at the corner of 35 S access rd and 44, near the RR tracks ,jump the barbed wire fence and start looking along in the brush for already started plants. They produce some very hot peppers. Don't pick up the small pieces of paper and cloth next to those plants.

There is a nursery at 4619 Littlecrest Road in Houston that was selling them for $10 for 2 gallon pots. Not sure if they still have some. They are really easy to grow from seed.

Welcome to take a few plants growing wild on our place. They come back every year after winter freeze. New ones from the birds. PM for information.

I harvested some wild ones and dried out the seeds for a few weeks.

Then grab a jiffy peat pod kit from wal mart or lowe's. Put three seeds in a pod and follow instructions.

I had 8 that sprouted but the mf'ing squirrels got 5 of those. The jiffy pods work.

I just take a couple of the bigger peppers and spread the seeds in a container of dirt and lightly cover them. Water every couple days and let the lot germinate how they will. Then after they get a few inches of height in a couple weeks, I go in and separate and plant in beds or pots. They are exceptionally hardy plants and this process seems to mimic their natyral dispersal tendency. I keep mine covered in beds with a blanket when freezes are expected then uncover after hard freeze chance passes. Haven't lost a plant since the big freeze here in Houston.

And for clarification, air dry some the red ones on a paper towel for a couple weeks in preparation.

My cousin thought we had a Tic-Tac bush when we were very young. He helped himself without us knowing.

Nobody could figure out why he was screaming and crying and gulping water.

I found a pepper inside the house on our yellow shag carpet (it was the 70's!!) and it had a tooth mark in it.

After that my dad had him drink pickle juice. That worked. Milk didn't touch it.

We have 10 plants in our backyard. They even survived the all the snow and ice 2 years ago. We are just south of Austin.

We got so many berries last year. We dried and ground them up and we use them all the time.

My great uncle always said he knew when they were ready to pick because the mockingbirds started flying backwards.

Where you at in NW Houston? I drive in to Jersey Village at least twice a week.

Dug mine out of pasture 10 years ago. Dies back and regrows every year. Have about 30 new plants in the same pot.

Would be happy to put a few in a cup for ya.

My daughter did the same thing when she was about 2. Came inside and her face was bright red around the mouth and kept saying "hot berries". To her credit, she never cried but her eyes and nose were running. Took her into the minor emergency because we thought she got into some holly bushes. The doctors laughed when they figured it out. To this day she's still my one kid that will eat spicy food.

I'm still working on my dried batch from last year, I added them to jalapeños and Serranos. First batch I was too curious and got my face too close to the dust when I opened up my spice grinder.

Grew them a few times. Too much a pain to fully harvest and destem. Not worth it if you only want to eat them but a cool plant to have. But bigger peppers are easier than matchstick heads, pepper for pepper harvested.
