Rubber on both arms is coming off and they are replacing for free under the warranty.

I thought this was a topic in the past on here and the "new" process with Luxottica was not a pleasant one anymore, but couldn't find the threads.

Am I misremembering or did I get lucky?

The process was super straight forward. I put in the comments that it was a present and guessed as close as I could to the birthday that I got them (Aug 2020), I think it may have been before that but not positive and my wife cannot remember.

Filled out the information and uploaded pictures of the defect and a few days later I get an email saying it was accepted for a full replacement. UPS label created and I will mail it out this week.

I have a pair of Zanes that also needed the rubber replaced on one side back in 2019. While it was before their buyout, everything went well and it was done for free, which even then people were already saying the warranty isnt as good as it used to be. I've seen several reports on other outdoor forums that have said a lot of issues are still covered for free under warranty work even with the new ownership.

Costa has always been fair and pretty efficient with my warranty claims and general service requests. I just had to order new glass lenses after swatting a wasp with my hat. Completely forgot my sunglasses were sitting on top of my hat and ended up busting a lens. Still got the wasp though! $100 or so and got two new lenses within a week of ordering. My last warranty claim for frames was completed within two weeks or so. The rubber was also falling off of mine and they replaced them with no questions asked.

This will be my second replacement for a rubber ear piece falling off - not sure if that will impact it any.

It depends on what parts. Generally, the rubber parts and arms, they are usually pretty good about replacing. It's when you get into lenses that it CAN be more of a pain, but a lot depends on who you end up talking to.

I have a replacement pair on the way now. Simple process. I actually stepped on the old pair.

I just started to initiate a repair claim and they require "Proof of Purchase" - I don't have a receipt as I bought mine in the "TheEyeGuy Group Buy" of 2017..

Call me tomorrow and I can get you one. Also, generally, I sent google docs with receipts out. Not saying I was 100% perfect on that, but odds are, I have a receipt for you. If I don't, I'll make one for you.

Sent in a pair with 580 glass because the rubber was coming off the tips. Was expecting a repair, but They sent me back a new pair but with plastic lenses.

I don't know what y'all are doing wrong but the 3 times I've had warranty work done on Costas they've been great and either fixed and returned quickly or sent brand new glasses. Most recently was in 2019, IIRC.

The rubber fell of my nose piece, they are sending me a new pair. They've always treated me right.

Bonus as all I had to do was send them pics. Glued it back in after.

How long is the Costa warranty? I bought mine almost 10 years ago and the arms, or whatever you call them, bend upward. They live in my truck and the heat has done a number on them. Don't know if that would qualify.

I've sent the same pair of fantails in 3 times since 2015. Before and after the luxottica merger or whatever. Twice for rubber nose piece falling off, once when I cracked the frames. They've been replaced each time, for a small fee when the frames were cracked. With the nose piece they replaced for free and I got upgraded for free to 580g from plastic during one of these. I sure can't complain!

They don't warranty lenses. I had some i sat on and they shattered. Offered to replace my lenses for the price of a new pair of glasses.

I have some fathoms that I just put a request in for based on one of the ear pieces degrading through time. Put no receipt since I don't remember when and which site I got them from many years ago. Will see what they do for me.

Just got the email this morning about replacement. They no longer carry fathoms but I get a comparable for the retail value. Thanks for putting this thread up.

I submitted a warranty request for a pair with the rubber that started peeling off on the sides earlier this year purchased in 2016 (I didn't have my receipt and said such) when I saw this thread come up, and they responded last night confirming they'll replace and pay UPS shipping. Hopefully its a quick turn but I've got backup WileyX pair I can use in the meantime.

Thanks for posting this thread!

I sent my Costas in a few years ago for the same issue. Not only did they fix that but they found a problem with the lenses that I hadn't even noticed and replaced those as well.

I took a stab at submitting some 14 year old Brines that really only had a couple of minor things wrong with them…but, I never wear them because they fit a little snugger than they used to… got the email today that they're replacing and gave me about 6 other frame options and pretty much any lens option I wanted.

Just tried this yesterday. Had a model no longer available that I claimed under the warranty for a broken rubber nose piece and enamel worn off the C logo on ear pieces (these were a pair of the blackout series from a few years ago).

The pool I had to select a new pair from was kinda crappy, and there were only 2 kinds with 580G, so I chose one of those (black 580G lenses). Since I didn't have proof of purchase, I'm guess this could have affected the replacements they offered.

I'll probably order some aftermarket polarized lenses of another color at some point, but it still was pretty smooth to initiate the claim. Now just gotta wait to get the replacements.

That ain't a warranty claim that's you not taking care of your stuff. Warranty claims are for manufacturer defects.

Submitted a claim online Monday for a pair of fantails with rubber trim that's crumbled in the Texas heat the past few summers. Even without a receipt, they've offered to do a straight up replacement for free. Sent them off today, so hopefully turnaround is quick and easy. So far so good.

Got a shiny new pair in the mail yesterday. Hooray for that. Just under two weeks from claim submission to receiving the new pair. I'll take it!

Just to bump this again... I submitted a warrant claim for a pair of Fantails on Tuesday (nose piece coming off). I just got the confirmation for free replacement. This is the second time the warranty has worked out great for me.

Sending mine in today under the warranty claim as well. Had to take additional pictures for whatever reason, but they approved it this morning and sent me the UPS label.

I will add I also just bought a pair of Bajio glasses to try out. Even if Costas are replaced under warranty, I'm tired of having to do the song and dance for them (this is my 3rd go-round).

Bajio is a spin-off of ex-Costa employees after the buy out and from what I can tell use the same lense technology.

Wait, so the claim referenced in the months earlier post of:

was about:

I mean, sitting on and breaking glasses shouldnt be covered by the manufacturer. If you think they should be handling that for free, I'd say thats being a bit unreasonable. Maybe they did cover stuff like that way back in the day when first starting out, but I wouldnt expect that to be the norm.

I've had two claims (rubber becoming detached from the frames on the ear pieces) and had two successful resolutions where they cover it and I pay nothing.

I've had TWO issues with Costa's this year, one my fault completely! They replaced both sets completely free, $280 pairs x 2 replaced for free! I'll keep buying Costa's just for this alone! I own 4 pair.
