62 grain Winchester White Tail round. T didits job perfectly. Shot was about 65 or so yards, well placed.

Most Texas whitetails aren't big, give or take a 100-125 pounds on the hoof depending upon where you hunt. Any of the heavier 55-64 grain 223 hunting rounds (not FMJ) will work with a well placed shot.

I'm a reloader so for deer I use the 70 grain semi spitzer. I get great accuracy and they are quite a bit less splashy than the typical 55 grain varmint bullet.

Check out the Hornady Black 75gr interlock soft point round. Haven't taken a deer but have been very impressed dropping hogs with them from 70-170yds

The varmint styles work, but they do a lot of damage.

The doe my daughter took was with a Winchester White Tail round, which looks to be pretty similar to a Core-Lokt bullet. Copper jacket, soft point, heavy base.

I took a doe with a handloaded Sierra Gamechanger out of the same rifle, it did a great job as well. Both were 62 (maybe 64?) grain projectiles, neither was anything spectacular in terms of distance (less than 100 yards), neither deer ran more than about 30 yards. Took a few pigs with the Sierra's as well - they are really good rounds. Wish Sierra would get them in production again.
