Looking for a "truck" cooler, 20qt or so. I'm tired of replacing hinges on the Igloo.

I have an RTIC and it's been solid. Can't speak for the other brands though

Hard side or soft side?

My RTIC soft side fell apart at the seams and the top came off completely. I got frustrated and threw it in the trash. I am currently in the market for a new 30 can soft side.

Hard side. One of the old ones from when they first came on the scene

My softside rtic is excellent

It's been to 20 countries with me the last 2 years, my squadron issues them out and I haven't heard complaints from anyone.

My rtic SS is still going strong 5+ years later. Keep the zipper greased and it lasts a long time. My 65qt rtic cooler is a beast and is also still in top shape after the same number of years.

I would not buy a hard side in that small of a size. If you want a little one, go with the soft side. Pick the one that fits your budget and self image.

Been very happy with my polar bear soft cooler. I have a yeti too and the polar bear was half the price and works twice as well.

Agreed. Don't know why they even make coolers that small. You really only going to drink a 6 pack?

Just bought a Yeti Roadie 24 at Bass Pro this weekend - really like it. On the plus side are the latches which for this size cooler I really liked better than the tundra style latches and the fact it doesn't have a drain (don't have to worry about it coming lose and leaking). It'll probably outlive me.

Really like my Dometic. Stays cool forever and never needs ice.

I have an igloo marine 25 qt. Have had it probably 10 years and use it in my truck and buggy. It doesnt keep ice as long as a yeti but it costs less than 10% of a yeti

I've had the same RTIC locked in the bed of my last truck and my current, they work great and save money on them over a yeti.

I've got a Pelican 70qt that rides in the back of my truck to/from wellsites. Carries groceries, ice etc. Works great. Kept Ice on a 4 day trip to North Dakota from Houston with cases of water in it.

How slow are you drinking that you need that much damn ice? 20qt easily fits an 18pk + ice.

I'll check into that. I'm not sure my current cooler can handle another set of hinges.

Can't find metal aftermarket hinges? I did for mine and breathed new life into it.

I've also used a piece of 1" wide webbing as long as the hinge. Works and doesn't squeak like the plastic ones do….

My RTIC soft side keeps ice for about 3 hours. No more.

I have a RTIC soft side that does a decent job keeping things cold, but I bought a RTIC 20 hard cooler that's amazing. The seal is so good thst I have to open the drain in order to get the lid open. I typically use ice packs, and they're still solid at the end of the day in it vs melted (but still cold) in the soft side.

IMO, if you're just looking for something for 3-4 hours, the soft side will be a great choice. But if you're wanting something for the whole day, the hard cooler is worth the extra, IMO.

why do you say that? a hard side cooler will hold ice way better than a soft side one. my small RTIC softside doesn't hold much more than my Yeti roadie. and the roadie stays cold astronomically longer.

Walmart Ozark Trail works great. Have had one for years. I use it over my Yeti and RTIC for truck bed trips to ranch and coast, namely because I don't mind it getting sun exposure or abuse from other items in the bed. It keeps things cold.

It's gray. The others are white. I wouldn't go darker than gray for obvious reasons.

I have a small soft sided gray Ozark Trail also. It's pretty good for what it is and works well. definitely good for quick trips. Mine only holds about 10 cans with ice though - it's pretty small.

Because a cooler that has the lid opened a bunch, like for getting beers out, won't hold ice. That is fact. If you are in and out of a cooler, it will not hold ice. So, if something you are in and out of will not hold ice, why are you lugging around a 30 pound monster?

Take the big heavy boogers on a back country trip like they are intended. Take a light one for a regular trip and just buy another bag of ice.

The yeti backpack cooler is the most convenient sized day cooler. It fits a decent amount and has a very small footprint

Have a Kodi, the HEB brand, and love it. Think most of Yeti knock-offs seem about the same.

After having Yeti and Rtic soft sides that ultimately failed, I bought the the new Yeti Roadie 24. I ordered it from the Meat Eater website this week for $200 with free shipping. They are $250 everywhere else. It fits perfectly between the back seat and console in my truck and holds an 18 pack plus ice. The new strap handle and latches are an improvement over the previous version plus it is lighter and no drain plug so no leaking in the cab.

I was given a Yeti roadie a couple of years ago. It fit perfect between the front and rear seats in my work pickup (F150). I take it on trips every week. Loaded down with water, topo Chico, and sometimes the occasional cold beer. It's fantastic for that. Also of note, we put an ice maker in our bar in our new home build we just "finished" and that is amazing to not have to stop at the store to get ice.

Ballgames it is particularly great. We can ice stuff down the night before, leave it in the vehicle overnight for one less thing to have to load. FYI 11 and 14 year old boys could forget anything AND everything.

Guess I'll be the one to say screw RTIC.

I had a soft side cooler. Used maybe 6 times when the stitching failed and the bottom fell completely out of it. It was always stored indoors and was not abused. Contacted RTIC and it was maybe a month out of warranty. I was told to pound sand. No concessions, no help, no nothing.

I won't make that mistake again

Had a Yeti Flip 12 soft cooler for about 7 years. Zipper pull came off the cooler. Filed a warranty claim and they sent me prepaid label to return the cooler and sent me a brand new cooler at no charge. Pretty impressed with the their customer service and warranty.

Yep, the igloo marine is probably the best deal for the money. It feels the cheapest, but it's great for the money. I have a Yeti and an RTIC too. Yeti is probably the best of the bunch, but I use the RTIC the most for whatever reason. Just get what you like...
