I need to buy a mid-size hard side cooler on Saturday. Looked at Kodi at HEB really closely tonight. Seems like Yeti level quality for less, but they didn't have the size I needed. Going to Academy tomorrow…do I even mess with looking at RTIC or Magellan hard side options or just spend the extra money and get Yeti? Would like OB advice on the best bang for buck for mid size (+/- 50 qt), and wheels or no wheels. Thanks in advance,
Aren’t we lucky?

Wheels are nice if you have to move it.

RTIC is definitely worth the money vs Yeti.

I think they're all about the same, shoot even the high end igloos from Walmart are comparable. My favorite one I've used is canyon coolers but they were more expensive than rtic. The Magellan ones should be more than capable.

Igloo. And affordable to leave unsecured in the back of the truck.

They had a clearance on a Yeti 45 at the Lowes in League City for $200 the other day. I already have one but was tempted to pick it up anyway because it is a good size and mine has held up well
hunting and fishing regularly.

I recently bought 2 RTIC open box coolers from their store on Hempstead Road. If you're in Houston you might stop by. Paid roughly half price.

For the value oriented shopper, don't sleep on the Ozark Trail brand at Walmart.

For hard side I have an Igloo from Academy what doesn't quite hold cold as long as my RTIC. I would buy another, larger, RTIC before I would spend money on a Yeti hard side. If you are looking for best value I would say RTIC.

Now if we are talking soft side, spend the money on Yeti for big and go with Ice Mule for small/portability.

What are you using it for? In the majority of use cases, a Coleman extreme is going to be the best utility as far as cost, weight, performance.

If you need a rotomold type then RTIC is hard to beat.

Good idea but I'm in San Antonio this weekend picking up my blackbuck and whitetail meat from the processor. I've been thinking since I got here that the one cooler I brought won't be enough. Ragrets.

I have to pick up a bunch of summer sausage and meat from the processor outside of Blanco, and I don't get to drive it all home to Houston until tomorrow, which is why I'm thinking of a hard side that can actually keep it all frozen vs just cold.

We don't do that here. This is the OB. If it cost more, its better. Facts.

Buy the biggest/most expensive one in the store, then post pics.

Send it.

I would love to…but my wife will be there with me to temper my OB-style ambition…I will post a pic of the winner though. Morning plan is academy then bass pro, hadn't thought of buc-ee's but that could be my contingency stop.

I have this cooler and it performs really well. It's not a yeti, but that's ok for me.

We have a nice RTIC but have friends with a Coleman that performs similarly for less than half the price

You shouldn't need a yeti for that. I'd get a cheaper cooler, keep it indoors, fill all headspace with ice, and don't open it.

I use my Coleman extreme frequently. I rarely need to use my rtic

Guy asks for advice on a cooler, overwhelming majority of answer give options other than yeti, guy buys a yeti.

Guy is happy. Who gives a sh*t about anything else.

The blue is sharp. Guessing it gets hot as F tho.

I may have just had lemons, but my experience is that RTIC is nowhere near as good as a yeti. Multiple sizes, hard and soft side. I've been underwhelmed.

I've had two brute/bisons that are closer in quality but I'd still prefer a yeti.

FWIW I've never owned a yeti, but my dad and some friends do and theirs always out perform my coolers.

We looked at every single cooler they had at HEB and Academy - neither of us like the look of the high end igloos, and I liked the yeti knockoff Magellan coolers, but the wife loved the look of the navy blue yeti…so that's the way we went, and I wasn't about to argue her down. Here's pics of the cow creek dry link and buck stick sausages - one of the many products we just picked up. Delicious!

So not considering tags and any other hunting costs, were up to what, $1000 post harvest? Better be tasty!

Those nave blue Yeti's look great. When you're buying a cooler that will last a lifetime a few extra bucks is worth it. I've had people at Aggie tailgates offer to buy my maroon Legend 75 for more than double what I paid and I turn them down.

Or you could look at it like this: had a ton of fun, made great memories, now I have better gear that will last me a looong time, and also I have some great table fare.

The OB never ceases to amaze. Some people just look for negativity.

If wife with you buy the cheapest ice chest that will hold the extra meat and add a $4.00 block of dry ice in the bottom then meat and newspaper on top. Tell her this is how you save money.
