So my wife was making kids lunches for tomorrow and dropped 1 freaking raisin and my vacuum cleaner of a lab got it before she could pick it up.

I know grapes and especially raisins are toxic for dogs, but will one freaking raisin hurt?

That's what I thought/ think but if you google it, it makes is sound like you better start digging a grave in the backyard…

Go ahead and dig that grave. Put your balls in it.

I'd have to get permission from my wife to get them from her purse first

Same thing happened to us. I was a vet tech for 5 years and everything in my common sense brain was saying he's fine. Still texted my old boss/buddy and made sure after reading what you're describing on the internet.

My dog has probably had a dozen grapes (never more than one or two at a time) because kids, and she's fine.

One raisin, especially for a large breed is nothing.

Don't read the Google freak outs. Just keep a watch on your dog. If he/she shows any abnormal signs, got to the vet/er.

Stuff like grapes and chocolate can absolutely be toxic to some dogs, even fatal. But just like people, everyone will react differently. Most labs think they are freaking garbage disposals., no matter how hard you try. My current pup started throwing up in her crate last week in the middle of the night. Before I could get it open, she was licking whatever she threw up back up. I waited a few minutes, and here it came again. It was a wrapper from a kid's chocolate chip granola bar. No idea if the bar had been in the wrapper or not. But I got it from her, and she was just fine from then on.

Just my opinion. NOT A VET OR PRO IN ANY WAY.

I've only had 2 labs in my life, both in the last 3 years, and I am pretty sure the list of stuff they haven't eaten is shorter. I swear I find kids socks or underwear or some other random fabric every time I'm cleaning up the backyard.

my dumb as a brick 8lb dachshund ate like 2.5 full size 95%+ dark chocolate bars and lived. Took him in and they called poison control and basically told me he should be dead. He just threw up dark chocolate all over my grey fabric couch for a few hours.

My cousin had a Dalmatian taking a dump and one day we just happened to lock in on him while he is in the process. After he finished, we moved in for a closer inspection and there was a semi-inflated balloon in his poop. Still makes me laugh 50 years later.

Our lab puppy ate my hearing aides about ten years ago. I had a special insurance on them and called the company for a claim. The lady said I needed to send them to them for proof. I explained again that my Lab ate them .... as in put them in his mouth and swallowed them quicker than Johnny Manziel dodging a tackler.
She said she understood but still needed them for proof. So we watched his poops and sure enough he passed them. All in tack except the batteries were gone out of them ( have no idea) So I Cleaned them with a stick best I could and Fed Exed them to her. Was approved for total replacement in one day!

Our old Labrador used to eat the crayons the kids left laying around. Technicolor stools in the yard made for interesting discussion.

Our dog ate the kid's retainer once and the dentist would not do a free replacement because the issue was so common that I should have reported it lost or defective.

Had a Rottweiler who swallowed a pair of pantyhose. My girlfriend at the time had to help him pass them. She said it was like a magician with the never ending magic hanky. Hell of a girl.

Now we have labs. My Lord. We thought one had swallowed a sock (not unusual), and we gave him peroxide to throw it up. No sock but out popped an intact kids glove. Those animals can flat out eat. Taught my kids to pick up their floors.

I like frozen green grapes and used to share a couple with my lab each time I ate them. That was before I knew they were bad. I think it'll take more than one to do any damage.

My lab has eaten some pretty interesting things as well.

Our Golden ate a solid pound+ of grapes while we were out somewhere. Rushed her to vet when we got home - they made her throw 'em up and compared the volume to what we thought she ate. Most came up intact.

She never missed a beat, even though I'm quite certain some were retained. (We would have used peroxide ourselves but were concerned that she would surely have issues given the volume she ingested).

We have four kids all 2 years apart. When they were young, our dachshund ate all kinds of craziness thanks to them. He still lived to to be 15, not sure how.

here's an article from a vet discussing the amounts needed to be toxic

the TLDR is 0.3 oz of grapes or 0.05 oz of raisins per lb of body weight is the lowest they've seen to cause renal failure. for a 50 lb dog that is roughly 60 grapes or roughly 2 of those little mini boxes of raisins.

Parents have a black lab (85 lbs) get into a few rat bait traps at the ranch. Came home from hunting and found that he ate at least 4 cubes. We called poison hotline and gave him hydrogen peroxide and took him on a mile walk. He never puked. We crossed our fingers after that and he just had green poop for a couple of days. He also got into 4 full chocolate bars. Same story and never even puked. That's been 6 years ago and he's now 10. We're now convinced he's indestructible

one of my favorite things is talking to vets about the ridiculous things they've removed from the GI tracts of their Labrador patients. probably the worst i've heard was our vet told us of a lab that ate an entire plate of Vienna sausages each with a toothpick in it. had to remove a section of intestine due to like 10-15 punctures. he told me this story while i was there due to one of our dog's litter mates we were watching for a long weekend having decided to eat a rock about the size of a golf ball

100% blockage

Vet here. Grape and raisin toxicities are idiosyncratic reactions so no way to tell when and to what dog they will be a problem. That being said, 1 raisin eaten by a lab I wouldn't worry about. A whole box, yes I would induce vomiting and monitor renal values. Just monitor for any symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, etc). Doubtful you'll see anything.
