Lobby the legislature then, because in today's environment you're SOL.

Excuse my ignorance, why hunt coon? Need a new Davy Crockett hat?

I think I shot one when I was 19 hanging out with buddies. It wasn't until after I pulled the trigger when I thought what's the point of shooting this thing…
Because it's perfectly legal to do so, and some folks really enjoy it.

That's really the only answer you need IMO.

You seem a bit sensitive on the subject. "It's legal and folks enjoy it" could be said about a lot of things the many on here disagree with.

Is it legal to have 100 decibel exhaust on your truck? Yes. Do people enjoy it? Yes? Do I think it's stupid? Yes

I don't "need an answer" do your thing, just keep off other's property.

My dog runs on your place following a covey of quail & gets lost, I ask permission to go get it. What am I liable for?
Again, have you ever hunted animals with dogs?

Yes, I have hunted quail with dogs before.

In the scenario you provided? Nothing. A one time accident is certainly reasonable.

That's not what's going on in the OP. He has already intentionally run his dogs on OPs property twice (without permission) and has given all indications that he's not going to stop.

I'm actually shocked that you think this is ok.

Worse case scenario is the dog owner finds out, files a complaint with the police, and the landowner is arrested for felony cruelty to animals and then has to hope they aren't indicted or defend themselves in court.

A landowner can shoot a dog if the dog is harassing livestock, a domesticated animal, or a person but I'd get video of the dog doing it before pulling the trigger.

There is no proof in the OP that the dogs were run onto the property intentionally. They followed the game, which happens sometimes.
The guy with the dogs sounds like a bit of a jackass, but it doesn't sound like he personally was trespassing with a firearm hunting. This would not be OK & is illegal.

The event described sounded more like an accidental event IMO, especially since he asked permission to get his dogs.

The dog owner is also within his right to continue hunting on the place he has permission.
It's unfortunate they went across the fenceline, but as someone who has hunted with dogs all my life I have a little sympathy & can see the hunter's side. It is also unfortunate the OP's hunt was messed up. That really sucks.

Not really sensitive at all - just gave you an answer to your question.

Nice try at changing what I said though, as I said absolutely nothing about being on or off anybody's property.

Perhaps a solution:

OP should contact the adjoining landowner & explain who he is and what it is he does on the land.
Anyone with a heart would side with the guy. I would venture to guess that the owner would side with the guy helping disabled kids vs. a local running dogs one night a year.

I agree that's the only answer you need. But I don't get why people get so defensive over questions like this. This is the OB, this isn't CNN where people are asking gotcha questions.

Some people are interested in why it's a thing. What do they do with the coons they shoot? Do they sell the hides? Do they eat it? Just because they're asking the question doesn't mean they want it to be banned or shun people who do it.

And, I'm definitely not picking on you. It's a pretty common answer in regards to all things hunting/firearms. And multiple made the remark on this thread before you. But it does come a little off-putting and can completely turn people off to hunting. I mean I can't imagine how someone would react if they asked why I run and I said "because it's legal." Sure, I'd be right, but doesn't mean they won't walk away shaking their head at me for being a dick.
Agree, to some degree. But this guy has asked the question, gotten several answers and either didn't like them or had comments - pretty clear that he's of the "I don't do this, so don't understand why anybody actually would" mentality.

I don't coon hunt, outside of popping a coon at my deer feeder on occasion, so I don't have a dog in the fight (pun intended).

And, frankly, anytime somebody - even on this board, and especially in the last few years on this board - ask the "why do you do this" question, odds are it's because they don't do it and want to point out why, and generally holds an air of "nobody should because I don't" about it, so some of us olds get instantly put off.

I Haki have land in the Panhandle that is not scenic or recreational. Parcels near me are selling for in excess of 1000% of what I paid in 1994

Hard to ignore that type of return
Oh, trust me - I get it. Just pointing out that it isn't 100% those evil city folk that contribute to the 10 acre hatred - because it takes landowners to sell initially to developers. And those good old country folk that don't do anything wrong and have to suffer when city folk go outside the city limits are every bit as much of the problem as the city folk that some on here love to hate on.

It is a 2 way street, but the comments often only go one way. Nothing more than that.

Yeah, after seeing the last response to you, I tend to agree and retract my statement.

But still standby the fact that the defensiveness in general is off-putting to those trying to genuinely learn more or get into hunting/shooting.

What a thread I stepped in.

Anyway, if any generous Ag has some Brazos valley land with hogs that they'd allow a 9-year-old kid and me (I wouldn't be shooting) to take a crack at and maybe serve as an alternative spot for the Outdoor Dream Foundation hunts when friendly awesome hog dog owners mess our hunts up every year, please contact me below. Thanks

I'm 1-1/2 hours away from B/CS, wish you were closer as we have all the hogs you could handle.

Have you tried to contact the owner of the 200 acres where the guy is hunting to explain what it is you do on your land?
Maybe they would let you lease their acreage or hunt for free vs. the other guy.
