I agree with all said. One of the problems with this craft is there is a learning curve, and leather and leather tools, products, etc, can be a bit steep. I took leatherworking in 8th grade in 1966. I learned some basic skills and went on the buy books and get books from the library. There are definately multiple ways to do most things. I still have the tools I bought in the early 80's, and they all work fine, but if I would start from scratch today, the initial investment would probably turn me away.
Having said all that, have enjoyed making guitar straps, belts, a briefcase, buckles, Bible covers, and other stuff.
Making my own carving designs has giving me lots of pleasure and been a release for my creative juices.
So, if you are realistically willing to put in an initial investment, and willing to take the time to learn the craft, go for it!
Youtube can be your friend, but as stated, there are so many ways to do something that it can get a bit frustrating.
