I heard he knifed a guy while at A&M for topping a crape myrtle. But it was deemed justified, and he wasn't arrested or expelled.

Could have just been a rumor though.

As one of the older farts on the forum, I'd like to point out that you'd need to find someone 10-15 years older than me to have crossed paths with Sperry.

Don't know how long he attended A&M, his degrees are from Ohio State.

Pretty sure his Dad was a prof here and he grew up here but had moved before college. But he definitely speaks highly of the community and A&M.

Have listened to Neil fog years and he is the best. I don't think he attended A&M but grew up in College Station and his dad was a professor in range management.
He went to Ohio State.

His books are really awesome. Chock full of info. You can buy them direct off his site.
Trump will fix it.

We have a weekend garden show in San Antonio on KTSA. It is paid programming by one of the local nurseries. Those guys don't mind bagging on Extension when they get the chance

Milburgers Nursery Garden Show.

All the hosts worked for Ag Extension and are very notable for their accomplishments.

Growing up in North Texas, my folks listened to Neil Sperry every Saturday morning, i believe his show was on KRLD radio in Dallas (maybe WBAP, can't remember).

i remember his voice and would recognize it instantly. we had a huge garden and a lot of fruit trees. good memories. been forty years. time flies.

We're from North California, and South Alabam
and little towns all around this land...

I like the Milburger show. The one I was talking about is not that one. It is Shades of Green.

The show put on by Shades Of Green is the one that tends to bag on Extension. Hosted by that Bob guy. He also owns Shades of Green.

Shades of Green is a nice nursery, but I usually change the station when their show is on

Everything there is grossly overpriced, as well.

It is a nursery convenience store for 09ers. You pay for the smugness when you buy there.

And I am an 09er

From the article

Quote:

I started out at Texas A&M, but the prof back then (mid-60s) didn't let us do much in the greenhouses and I ended up transferring to Ohio State where the floriculture enrollment was 75 times larger I was in with 340 other plant geeks, and it was terrific.

I guess he did get expelled. Good cover story.

Which shades of green we talking about?

Don't know about the one in San Antonio, but the one in Frisco is owned and operated by multiple generations of good Aggies.
