I am really digging the 4" models - especially the Shield Plus.

Any other Shield fans?

The factory trigger on the Shield Plus is the best I have seen on any striker fired gun without an aftermarket trigger...

Shield Plus Will be my next gun once I sell my other 9mm. Agree on it being a great factory trigger. Plus it shoots very easy for a short barrel 9mm

Shield is my carry pistol for past several years.
Just stepped up to a Shield plus for the magazine capacity increase. Nice trigger and accurate, they got it right.
I replace sights with Ameriglo Hackathorn style.

IMO, best factory striker fired triggers are on Walther PDP and HK VP9.
If they ever make one in a Shield size it will be my new carry pistol.

I wasn't really fond of it due to such a low capacity, but the plus has my interest now. I might be looking at their performance center for another option for carry.

I've had a PPQ (I know, not quite the same) and a VP9 before. I personally prefer the Shield Plus trigger over those.

When the Shield 2.0 came out, Academy put the original Shield and the Shield EZ on sale. I picked up a Shield for 299 less $50 rebate from S&W and a $50 Academy gift card.

It became my summer EDC.

Carry the Shield 45. Great gun in this category. Carried with the Enigma and a JM Custom Kydex and it just disappears, even in dress clothes.

Have a 1.0 version I got cheap when the 2 came out.

They're good little guns, and usually a big hit with newer shooters when I'm letting them try a bunch out.

My only gripe is the grip extension sleeve thing on the extended mag on the 1.0 is easy to pinch yourself with on reloads.

I have a PPQ (slightly different) and a VP9, and I agree, they are awesome factory triggers.

My wife's M&P Shield is not nearly as smooth and we have never owned a gun with a greater propensity to jam than that M&P. From my personal experience I would never buy another one.

I had a couple version ones when they came out in 2012, and later sold them. But when I saw them for $249 again (at the start of 2020), I jumped to get one.

I've never had an issue with being pinched by the grip extension, but then again, I have smaller hands.

Well, the 2.0, and more importantly, the Shield Plus, have MUCH better triggers over the original Shield.

I am sorry your wife's Shield did not function properly. That is not the norm. The 1st Shield is one of the best selling guns of all time. They usually work very well.

Been a while since I've shot mine but my memory is that the extension piece is not actually connected to the basepad. Issue isn't hand size, but that piece moving up and creating a gap between the basepad and extension that becomes a pinch point.

Would be easy to fix by attaching to it basepad but I don't carry mine so I've never bothered.

Shot M&P Pros for several years in IDPA. I am a fan of S&W and I carry my Shield on occasion, although I have another I use for EDC.

My wife shoots well but has always had trouble racking the slides on all my other pistols. We bought her a Shield EZ in 9 mm, and she has no issues. S&W realized this was a great firearm for women but also understood the slide racking issue. Think the EZ is a great solution.

I have a single stack 9mm Shield and never carry it since I much prefer the Sig P365. I will likely sell it when I get the time

Her 9mm is a 2.0. Never fired a Plus, so I can't comment, but I'm still not a fan of the 2.0 trigger. Not the worst, but far from the best.

Obviously the jamming issue is the far more problematic issue. Enough that my wife doesn't trust it to carry.

I've carried a shield for years and put a lot of rounds through it, and have known a lot of people who have owned a shield and I've never once heard of a jamming issue. I think you've got a dud. Have you ever talked to S&W about it?

I didn't care for the weight distribution or trigger on the 1.0 but the damn thing was totally reliable.

I will say that I LOVE the fiber optic sights on the 3 Performance Center models I have. That is even why I bought the 3.1" Shield Plus in the Perf Center model. It only comes ported, but I have ordered a regular, non ported barrel to put in it. That was easier than getting the sights replaced, as I can do it myself. And, the cost is probably about the same.

I never really cared for fiber optic sights before. But, these have a metal spiral around the light rods to protect them from breakage.

And, lately, my 50 year old eyes have had trouble focusing on the front sight when at the dark, indoor range at Champion. I have NO issues with the fiber optic sights on these. And, the red/green contrast works fantastic.

When you say jamming....... is it "stovepiping" on her?

Have a friend (gun novice) that could not shoot hers without it stovepiping the brass. 4 of us took turns shooting it and we all had ZERO problems. We would hand it back to her and it would do it again.

Weirdest thing I've ever seen. We even put different loads in for her and it would repeat the problem every single time!

We worked on her grip and she actually cycled 1 round out of about 7-8 attempts. She finally gave up and quit shooting that day. Us laughing at the situation probably didn't help cheer her up!.

The ONLY thing we could surmise is that she is somehow doing some limp-wristing or utilizing a very light/loose grip that is causing the stovepiping. I guess she was not giving enough resistance for the pistol to properly cycle.
