I cant answer your question, but theres folks here that get drawn every year or every other year.......then you have the slums like me that are a decade plus deep in several categories and still havent got drawn.

I'm still going to enter though!!

I don't remember the exact odds but I did put together a spreadsheet last year to get an idea of what they were based on estimating the average number of years people may have been applying in each category and the cubed points. I'd have to do some digging to see if I still had it but I do remember that the odds of me drawing a Desert Bighorn Sheep tag in AZ were significantly better than the odds of me drawing a javelina hunt in Texas.

Even for kids the odds are pretty bad for decent hunts so I applied to some of the controlled hunts in OK this year for my son and he drew his first choice in his first try. The odds up there are literally 10x better than they are here for youth. You actually have to pay if they get drawn in OK but worth it for a good hunt imo.

Youth hunts are the way to go if you have the youths.

Javelina? Got drawn last season. Great hunt.

Also got second draw for a West Texas mule deer hunt in December. Near miracles happen.

Be patient boys. It took me 26 straight years of applying to get drawn for a whitetail buck hunt. And I didn't go.

Not sure about them releasing it under Freedom of Information act, could ways give it a shot.

On another note, I like the draw hunts, usually put in for a lot and draw draw 1-2 a year. In double digits for archery mule deer, gun mule deer, antelope and getting close with private antelope

Not trying to steal the thread, but why do some of the hunts show zero permits from last year but show a % success rate?
Not sure how that can happen.

The odds have gotten way worse since TPWD has gone to the online system. Back in the day when you had to request a catalog and fill the entries out by hand......and could only get one entry per category, the odds were much better. The new system generates a lot more money for TPWD and makes it much easier for the general population. I have a lot of points in a lot of categories, but am getting a little discouraged.

TPWD needs to give preference to Texas residents on all drawings.

And out of staters paying the same application fee that we do is BS.

1-800-792-1112, go through the menu to public hunting. Ask to speak to the public hunting director.

He'll gladly answer your questions.

I've found that the vast majority of TPWD employees are more than helpful and eager to share information.

Got an unexpected email from TPWD saying I was selected for Archery Javelina at Davis Mountains SP. Does anyone have any experience with this one? Shocked as I only had 2 loyalty points.

As an aside, this may be my last post after I tell my wife I'll be hunting within a month of my second son being born and on my first son's birthday. Should be a fun conversation.

They were on the road next to the main campsite when we were there last November. Should be an easy hunt.

Congrats. The great thing about that hunt in the past was you could also hunt aoudad and there are a bunch of them there. Unfortunately this year it appears to only javelina.

I've heard they hang around the campsite as well. Naturally, the compartment assigned to you may play a role in your success.

Peruse some of the threads found here:

You might have been the only applicant.

This is true. Not many are willing to travel to the ends of the Earth for a chance to hunt the cunning javelina.

So true, I am always amazed when I see people driving more than a few hours for javelina, pigs, or does. more power to you, but I don't mess with pigs or javelina. Last time I shot a pig I had a million fleas on me within a minute and javelinas I don't touch, stinky ass critters.

some of these hunts are offered in downright amazing places. I don't really care what I'm hunting if I ever get drawn for some of the spots, I just want the opportunity to hunt there.

this is my take as well. i'm looking forward to getting out there and seeing what i can see. typically i'm hunting out of a blind over a feeder so hiking around some Texas mountains with the bow should be a fun experience.

thanks for the recs above, the texas bow hunter forum had some good info.

Sweet thanks for reminding about my annual donations to a Texas organization that does not prioritize Texans.

Pending second draw. Pending second draw
