weedeater.

And I suck pretty bad at it.

I use a ryobi edger. I already have the batteries, so like 70bucks for the tool that requires essentially no maintenance and cuts as good as my old gas edger. Still use a gas trimmer.

Do you have the 18V or 40V? How long does the battery last?

UTEexan, I was going to ask you the same thing.

18v, I use a 4ah extended battery and it appears to use about a third of that battery on 180ish feet.

In my case, I'm old, tired, have a little money and got to where yard work was not what I wanted to spend my time doing.

I have had 2 mclane edgers in 30 years. I bought my last one 7 years ago for far less than what they are now. I have 1600' total of edging with drive way, sidewalks, and patio. Would hate to try that amount with a stringer trimmer.

Well, guess I'm going with the 40v. I decided on the Expand-It attachment capable tools to get a string trimmer and edger attachment but I don't see that they make an 18v anymore despite seeing several reviews of it on YouTube. Everyone seemed pleased with the power of the 18v.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!

This! Straight edger attachment makes life 10x easier and looks way better.

I don't edge. Takes too much time, and the sidewalk has never complained about the extra shade.

I have the curved version

Weed eater but I'm like 1 out of 10 guys in my neighborhood that actually does their own yard anymore. What is wrong with guys these days.

Of my immediate neighbors who are in their 20s-30s, one pays a lawn service, one set are renters who I've seen mow exactly once, and the other has his wife mow the yard about once a quarter. And none flew flags for the 4th of July. All are Ags.

+1

The most important factor: it's much less strain on the back. And that trimmer will EAT.

I use my weed eater, no desire to get a new tool and I can't change the head on mine anyway.

If the last thing I did was edge, I edge first then switch the head to weedeat.

If the last thing I did was weedeat, I weedeat first then switch the head to edge.

Then I mow.

Then sweep / blow.

Weed eater and I think I do pretty good. In both of these pictures the left side has been edged with the weed eater turned sideways. It does require some bicep strength to hold the weed eater steady so perhaps I'm just stronger than the average joe.

Been waiting all week to take a picture after edging huh?

Also, sharpen your blades.

YesI've been waiting for it to be dry enough to mow (edge) and to take a picture of my artistry. (New blades are actually on order.)

Of all the crazy F'n Texags arguments....this one has to be the worst...

Edger is easier and does a better job. Cost?? I've spent a couple hundred on way less...space?? Another 12 inches to hang the thing next to your weedeater?

So turns out they do still make the 18v Expand-it capable but they don't call it Expand-it. They just call it attachment capable. Anyway, I finally had some time to break this thing out and edge today. Why does the handle have to be angled at 45 degrees to cater to right handers? This seems shortsighted.
