Compared to our farm in Kerr County, there are very few song birds in Charleston or Myrtle Beach.

In both places, I live in suburbia, with lots of trees, plantings, etc.

Are the outdoor cats the reason there are so few birds?

I think there's something to that. The numbers of birds and other animals killed by housecats allowed to roam and/or feral cats is staggering.

we have quite a few songbirds around my house, but there's a large wild space behind us.

not many cats around here, i guess i'm lucky none of my neighbors seem to be cat people, or else they keep them inside.

And thankfully i've seen very few english sparrows and no starlings. The latter two invasives are another detriment to native songbirds.

More song birds migrate through the central US, not along either coast.
