This on was on my list and seemed well constructed.

I bought this jacket around christmas when Burdett's had them 50% off all their filson. I like it pretty good so far but the rainy days have been too cold for it by itself this winter. It seems really well made and I think I will like it.

Outdoor board is not the place to ask for budget options. Budget around here only means you have to finance it for 5 years instead of 6.

The precip jacket is really good for the money. It's my go to when need a lightweight warm weather rain jacket. Good for colder weather as well if layering, cuts down on the wind.

If it doesn't say GoreTex just assume it's not waterproof, windproof, or breathable regardless of what the manufacturer claims.

For the boys your best bet is to sacrifice breathable. Wind/waterproof can be had relatively cheap

I don't think it has to be Goretex (a brand) as there are other OEMs that make GT-like material. Just make sure it is a Polyester rather than a nylon, which typically isn't breathable despite what it says.

I don't have any experience with either of these, but if you search Amazon, the Helly Henson product (around $100) gets good reviews on the higher end and the BALEAF cycling jacket does the same on the lower end. Both are poly materials.

Sorry for the bump but Europtic has the Sitka Kodak on closeout for $183. This is a Goretex jacket that is normally almost $600. I have the storm front already ( which has been bomb proof) or else I would be all over this.

I've used a non-insulated Helly Hansen jacket for about 15 years. Heavy rains last weekend showed it's not quite as waterproof as it once was - still acceptable for light rain, however. Has held up amazingly well.

Ordered a replacement Sunday, I went middle of the line for them price wise.
