We've had two or three book threads in the last few weeks. You may want to do a search.

I would recommend:

Non-fiction:
The 2nd Ammendment Manifesto
https://www.amazon.com/Second-Amendment-Manifesto-American-Constitutional/dp/1736083503/ref=sr_1_1?crid=T9PDMFAA1YW7&dchild=1&keywords=2nd+amendment+manifesto&qid=1612323116&sprefix=2nd+ammendment+man%2Caps%2C172&sr=8-1

Fortitude - by Dan Crenshaw
I like Dan, and this book hits home with his thoughts on his military service and what all Americans owe the USA

Plugger - by Rudy Grigar
This one is one of my all time favorites as we fish many of the same waters that Rudy did way back when. He has some amazing tales.

Old Man and the Sea - Hemmingway
This is another of my all time favorites. I re-read it annually.

Fiction:
Jesse McDermitt series by Wayne Stinnet
These are set mainly in the Florida Keys with former military guys turned fed agents. I mainly like them for the nautical themed stuff and they are always fishing and shooting and diving.
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=jessie+mcdermott+series&crid=1BEBMHINTIOIE&sprefix=Jessie+McDermott%2Caps%2C173&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-a-p_1_16

The Mac Travis books were also a good read along the same lines as Jessie McDermitt.
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=mac+travis+adventure+series&crid=31D17COJ3Q5W1&sprefix=Mac+Travis%2Caps%2C172&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-a-p_4_10

I also read a lot of terrorist whacking stuff, by authors such as: Brad Taylor, Brad Thor, Mark Greaney (both Grey Man, and his Tom Clancy books), LT Ryan, Kyle Mills, Steven Konkoly. The original Tom Clancy stuff written by Clancy was all really good, too. I used to read Jack Higgins when younger, and he has great stuff. Another favorite is the Swagger books by Stephen Hunter. David L RObbins has written some other great ones also, like War of the Rats. Jack Coughlin also wrote some great sniper books. Any of the Jack Reacher books by Lee Child are worth it (better from the beginning ones first). Marc Cameron is along these same lines with a US Marshall. Ken Follet and some of his early English stuff like Pillars of the Earth is interesting for a change of pace.

I also have read some James Rawles stuff, like Patriots, Survivors, etc. It is great post-apocolyptic reading with covid going on.

Anything by Louis L'amour or Elmer Kelton never disappointed me when I was in High School. Lonesome Dove was better than the movie also.

I will also say that the books Jurassic Park, and We were soldiers, are 20 times better than the movies.

(ETA...I have always read a lot. I will continue to post up others as I recall them)

Read the whole Brad Thor collection, i think he is a dick personally, but really like his books. Also, start at the beginning, it will all flow much better than reading out of order.

Brad Taylor
James Rollins
Jack Carr
Ben Coes (Power Down is a great book)
Paul Doiron (about a Maine game warden investigator)

Someone gave me "Tools of Titans" and by the end of that book, I'd ordered at least 30 more books. Tim Ferris compiled excerpts from his favorite podcast guests and one of the things he includes is each of their recommended reading list. It's a rabbit hole if you're a book person and now my collection includes some crazy stuff I never knew I'd be interested in. Actually opened up some new paths in my life.

The Rescue Nurse
Book by J. Philip Horne

To rescue someone, sometimes you have to kill someone else.
When Michael Grimm is sent to Italy by his employer to transport an injured woman home to Montreal, he finds her riddled with bullet wounds and near death. Michael saves Ariana only to discover all is not as it seems, and that the lines between hunter and hunted don't exist.

Wilbur Smith. His books are about Africa, fathers, sons, and brothers. There are series but they also stand alone. I've read over 30 of his books and can't wait for the next one. About wildlife, hunting, wars, and battles. Some take place on ships, some in the jungle, some in the African plains. All are so good!

I'll probably get flamed for this but I love all of Louis L'Amour's books. They're my brain candy when I don't feel like reading a deep/heavy topic.

Came here to post Louis L'Amour. He's most famous for his westerns, but my two favorites aren't westerns.

The Last of the Breed is about an experimental air force pilot that gets shot down by the Soviets and then he escapes the prison camp and travels across Siberia waging a personal war against the Soviets.

The Walking Drum is an 11th century story that follows a man on a quest to rescue his father from slavery. One of my favorite books ever.

Great book.

Last of the Breed is an excellent read and not the typical Lamour book if you're not into westerns.

I always wanted more of The Walking Drum - remember reading it a long time ago.

Recently read The Last Bushman on the Mid-Kuskokwim - about and partially written by Roland Welker, recent Alone winner. Definitely enjoyed it - an uncommon perspective on trapping and living and guiding in the wilderness.
