How long do you want to ignore this user?
Since the OG thread was locked, I'm assuming due to the OP being a family member and the rampant speculation taking place on the thread. I'm providing the latest update from the sheriffs office which actually has a ton of info and a timeline, as well as pics from the scene of jason's disappearance.

Marijuana that they think **could be** laced with hallucinating drugs is not a good sign, when you consider he wrecked his car and they found all of his clothes removed at the scene. Still, hoping for the best and closure and peace for the family. But this story is perplexing to say the least.

Thank you for the update. Such a sad confusing story. I truly can not imagine being in that family's shoes.

Actually they didn't say they think it was laced with a hallucinagen. Here's the quote from the article you posted.

"There's still a possibility the weed was combined with an unknown hallucinogenic substance, deputies said."

Thank you for posting.

Can they determine if any other cell phones pinged that area around that time? Like if someone could have picked him up?

Strange about the beta fish.

Still praying for this family. This was posted on Facebook by the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office (mostly the same information as shared in the link above):

For immediate release:

The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office continues the search for 21 year old, Jason Landry, who is considered a missing person.

The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office has been partnered with the Texas Rangers and a team of retired Federal Agents/ private investigators in attempting to locate Jason Landry who has been missing since Sunday Dec. 13th, 2020. The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office has utilized and will continue to utilize assistance from other agencies, including the Caldwell County District Attorney's Office, Texas State University Police, San Marcos Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and TEXSAR- Texas Search and Rescue.

Investigators have now gained access to most of Jason's phone and computer data. Investigators are still waiting for some search warrants from social media/ tech companies to be returned and will immediately process that data upon receipt.

We are asking the public's assistance with any information which may further the investigation.

Investigators believe that Jason left his apartment in San Marcos at 10:55 PM on 12.13.20 with the intent to travel to the Missouri City Texas area, where his parents reside. At 11:05 PM Jason was driving his vehicle on Hwy. 80 and passes under 1-35 in San Marcos. Jason continued to drive south on Hwy. 80 entering Caldwell County at 11:07 PM. At 11:11 PM, Jason was in Martindale Tx, continuing south on Hwy. 80. At 11:15 PM, Jason passes over SH130 on Hwy. 80. At 11:17 PM he was in Fentress entering Prairie Lea at 11:19 PM and the area of Stairtown at 11:21 PM. At 11:24 PM, Jason entered the City of Luling on Hwy. 80. As Jason goes through the intersection of Hackberry St. where Hwy 80 becomes Austin St., Jason quits using the Waze application, and begins using the Snapchat application on his cell. Jason continues on Austin St. to the intersection with U.S. Hwy. 183 (Magnolia Ave.). It is believed that Jason continued straight through that intersection, continuing onto E. Austin. At this intersection, Jason's digital footprint essentially stops. It is believed that he continues on E. Austin onto Spruce St. which turns into Salt Flat Road. Jason's vehicle is found abandoned in the 2300 block of Salt Flat Road at 31 minutes after Midnight on 12.14.20.

The approximate 67 minute window, between the last data footprint at Austin and Magnolia and the discovery of the crash scene, is what investigators are focusing on. Jason's phone had cell signal and was powered on, investigators are still trying to determine why it doesn't appear to have been used since the area of Magnolia Ave. and Austin St.

Jason's vehicle was found abandoned, lights on, with the keys in the ignition, and the front passenger side door locked. The vehicle collision is a single vehicle collision, most likely from over correcting on the gravel road, and spinning off the roadway. The rear driver's side corner made initial contact with a tree on the east side of the roadway, propelling the front driver's side into another tree and barbed wire fence. There is no evidence that any other vehicle or outside force was involved in the collision. All of the evidence collected leads investigators to be confident that the contact with the trees and fence line was the only contact the vehicle sustained. The rear window of the vehicle was broken as a result of the impact with a tree. The volunteer firefighter, who discovered Jason's abandoned vehicle, did not enter the vehicle. The Trooper who responded to the scene, almost an hour later, also did not enter the vehicle. The vehicle was towed from the scene to an impound yard, where the next morning, Jason's father, the registered owner of the vehicle, entered the vehicle through the unlocked driver's side door, and discovered Jason's cell phone between the driver's seat and the center console. It is unknown if the phone fell as Jason was operating the vehicle through the intersection of Austin St and Magnolia Ave. or during the collision. Jason's father collected the phone and attempted to locate the scene of the collision. Upon arrival to the area, approximately 900 feet from the collision scene, Jason's father found articles of his sons clothing (shirt, shorts, socks, underwear, slide sandals and a wristwatch) in the roadway. Those clothes were collected by his father and later released to investigators who have processed those clothes for any evidentiary findings. A single blood smear was detected on the clothes. This blood spot was small and was not indicative of serious bodily injury. It is possible that an injury causing the blood spot occurred as Jason was exiting the vehicle and came into contact with the barbed wire fence or foliage. Upon a review of the Troopers body and dash cameras from his initial response to the crash scene, investigators know that approximately 900 feet from the collision scene, the following articles, belonging to Jason, were discovered in the roadway; a backpack, a ball cap, a plastic bag of personal toiletries, and a tumbler with his deceased beta fish in it. These findings were north of the clothing, recovered the next morning by Jason's father. Jason's backpack contained his wallet, a usable amount of marijuana, a laptop computer, gaming equipment, and a few personal effects. Any report stating that the backpack was "filled" with narcotics, is inaccurate. The small amount of marijuana has been seized and is being held. There remains a possibility that the marijuana was combined with an unknown hallucinogenic substance. Those findings are pending. It is believed that the clothing discovered in the roadway was the clothing Jason was wearing prior to the collision occurring. There is no indication that the clothing was removed under duress or threat. There was cold weather during the time Jason is believed to have gone missing, with the low temperature being recorded around 36 degrees F with a high of 43 degrees F.

On Monday, Jason's father received the backpack from DPS (without the seized marijuana) and released the phone to DPS Troopers when efforts began to access the device and data. DPS continued being lead on the search and initial investigative efforts, until Friday, 12/18/20 when the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office assumed lead. This office has been working with various outside agencies and organizations since assuming lead investigative responsibility.

Jason's vehicle has been processed for DNA and any blood evidence with the assistance of the Texas Rangers. There was no evidence of blood inside the vehicle.

There is no evidence that Jason was traveling to meet with or had communicated intent to meet with anyone in or around Luling.

Jason's father, mother and family members have been extremely helpful to investigators. Jason's ex-girlfriend, who resides out of state, has also been fully cooperative in assisting investigators. Their cooperation has been essential and appreciated. They are not suspects or persons of interest and are not believed to be withholding any information.

The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office will continue to utilize all available methods, techniques and resources to obtain information that will assist us in locating Jason. At this time, there is no evidence that an unknown person of interest is involved in this incident and investigators believe that there is no threat to our community. Investigators believe that this is an isolated event. The Sheriff's Office and investigators will continue to aggressively seek out evidence in this missing person incident. The Sheriff's Office will continue to work with Texas Search and Rescue and other search organizations in an effort to discover any evidence of Jason's location and additional searches are being planned and organized. Investigators at the Sheriff's Office do not specialize in search and rescue, and defer to the subject matter experts and specialists in these endeavors. Investigators have reviewed hundreds of hours of video from cameras in and around Luling, none of which have produced any evidentiary findings. Members of the public, who have game cameras on private property, or private surveillance video from the area, are encouraged to review that as soon as possible. You may contact our office for assistance in reviewing video, if needed.

Please review the most current missing person flyer, with an updated picture showing Jason within an hour of him going missing.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact any of the following investigators:

No evidence anywhere of anyone else yet they can't find him.

So incredibly odd.

Who did he contact on Snapchat? Seems like the entire case might rest on knowing that. If he is accosted in the town, seems unlikely it was someone with him that would then crash in this remote place with him. More likely it seems to me is that someone is in the car with him, and another car is following. Or that other person is driving the car. They dump the car, get back in the trail car and leave.

So: 1) who did he contact on Snapchat, and 2) was there another car with his car?

He diverges from google's suggested route from San Marcos to Missouri City right there where he stops using his phone. Highway 80 and Magnolia right in the middle of Luling. Instead of taking a right on Magnolia, he continues straight, while the road becomes increasingly rural as it goes out of the city until he crashes. He's on a gravel road when the crash happens, so if he's just lost, he would know by then he's not on the right route.

They a traffic light surveillance backed up timeline for him until he got to that last light in Luling. My guess if they were able to prove that chances are with the angle of those cameras they probably know if he had a passenger? Just my guess. No clue on the range or detail on those traffic lights.
shiftyandquick

They need to do a very thorough DNA search of his clothing. If someone other than him removed the clothing, it's possible a trace of DNA was left. But it's often expensive to do such tests, because most of the clothing will not have any DNA. So multiple testing would need to be done. For example, getting DNA from the watch, as someone is removing the watch from him.

I think he's the victim of foul play. Lack of blood on the clothing does not mean lack of violence. Strangulation for example.

Thoughts and prayers for the family, and I hope the authorities can bring justice to this case.

Another scenario is that there is a passenger with him. And then later that passenger calls an accomplice to drive another car to the scene.

The crash is where a struggle occurs (while he is driving). Another vehicle is used. Clothing removed at the scene of the crash, and then later disposed. Or removed from body at the scene where the clothes were found.

Report says passenger door was locked. If there was someone with him, they locked the door when they got out or went out the driver door?

Where did the picture come from that is on the CC Sheriff Department page?

Here's the major problem with the case: They completely botched the crime scene. The investigation is occurring after the car is towed, if I am reading this right. This car has a back seat, right? Someone could be in the backseat right behind him. Even if there isn't a backseat, having a locked passenger door means absolutely nothing. No one could have been in the car with him because the passenger door was locked? How does that pass muster?

Anyone with law enforcement knowledge - why did they let the dad keep the clothes, backpack, etc and look in the car first? Or did I read that incorrectly?

As far as the clothes he was wearing being at the scene, he could have had a change of clothes since he was going home for he holidays??? Just a thought.......
shiftyandquick
How long do you want to ignore this user?
two scenarios: 1) his mind wasn't right and he removed all his clothing. 2) he was dead, and the murderer removed his clothing.

If he was in his right mind and needed to change clothes, he wouldn't have tossed his watch, among the other things that were also left behind.

I believe the scent dogs followed a scent trail to a nearby pond/watering hole. But no trail afterwards. Search of water turned up empty.

Talking to a friend who's lived in the area and has had family working in the outdoors in the area for a long time, after the scent was lost it's conceivable that a body could have been easily passed by (if a body was in the brushes).

Annnnd new rampant speculation begins...

Nothing to add. Very very odd that his pile of clothes was in the road. It was cold out, hard to believe he just stripped down naked on his own. Also, i doubt abductors shuck their victims down nude before snatching them. This is not a normal deal obviously.

Are we even certain he was driving? Or even in the car?

Someone else could have taken all - the car, the phone, his clothes.

Looking kinda staged...

I have no idea that this is what happened but PCP will make you strip down naked and run around like a lunatic. It's also sometimes used to lace joints.

I'm curious about the interactions he had B4 he left SM. Quite a difference in the first photo posted and the updated one from Snapchat/ FaceTime. Tho the one with the backwards cap looks more normal.

Why was he leaving so late? On a Sunday? Was he working? Have they looked at his SM apt? Did he have a roommate?

I really loved training day, too. Great freaking movie. But let's not pretend like even 1 in 10,000 joints are laced with PCP.

Dude started toking a J that was laced with something. He gets on snapchat while smoking said J to document his coolness (this happens ALL the time). Meanwhile the stuff the J was laced with (PCP probably) kicks in, he loses his ****, wrecks his car, strips, and wanders into a tank or the woods.

That's my guess.

If he was murdered, nobody stripped him naked and left his clothes there. That's just ridiculous. They'd have gotten rid of evidence, not left a GD trail of it.

Never seen that movie. Just going off the article that was linked at the beginning of the thread that the deputies said it was a possibility and the other facts of the case.

I know laced joints aren't common but neither is what happened to this young man.

How far down the dirt road was the accident?

If he's driving back high, drops his phone, and misses the turn trying to grab it while still driving, how long does he drive before crashing?

That late at night though I don't know why he wouldn't just stop on the road to get the phone, but maybe that's the impairment talking.

If the accident was completely a single-person accident, I'm not sure why they weren't able to find the body. If he's completely naked, high/paranoid, and sore from an accident how far is he really going to go? If he had enough of his mind together to gather up all his stuff to walk back to the highway, why didn't he also take the phone out from between the seats and take that with him? To me that makes me think he was actively hiding it from someone and he was trying to escape a bad situation. Maybe he was Snapchatting and stumbled upon some methheads in the background?

I was thinking more along the lines of wanting to quit school, grades, pressure from parents, knocked up gf, stress from the corvid generally... stuff like that.

I've also read where its common for things like schizophrenia to manifest at that age. You never know.

Could have been that he received a snap, not necessarily a conversation. Snapchat does keep a lot of snaps and messages sent, though just the metadata and not the contents. Recipients/senders should be in there.

If I was the family I'd want the sheriff's office to subpoena all cellular companies for every cellphone that was on that road for 60 minutes prior to the last Snapchat and 120 minute after that Snapchat. The cell companies can geofence the route he took from that last Snapchat and tell authorities every cellphone that was in that area during that time period. I'd guess they'd return less than 100 numbers. Investigate every one of those cellphone owners. One of them will know what happened.
