The Black Friday deal thread got me curious about gun safes. I'm looking at getting an 18 or 24 gun safe from Liberty, but wasn't sure if it's worth the price. I'm a newbie on safes, and the wife says I have to get one before I can buy anymore guns (been hiding them around the house). Tractor Supply has a sale on Winchester safes right now as well, which are $300 cheaper than Liberty. Can I get some guidance?

Buy once; cry once (until you buy #2...then do it again).

Buy as big as you can afford in a quality brand as they don't hold as many guns as rated once you throw on optics or have several shotguns. Liberty seems to get good reviews here.

Few years back someone posted Norm Dion's info on here from BrowningSafes.com. I emailed him for "his" price sheet & got it within a couple hours with an intro. I called him to verify his coolness and had a hoot of a conversation with him. Ordered my custom 65T two-tone from him and had it delivered in a couple weeks and for cheaper than any deal I was finding on the caliber of safe I was looking for (including Black Friday). He sent out this email in April letting us know he was still kicking.

Couldn't care less about the referral, just a good dude to deal with on good safes.

That's a big freaking safe. I wish I had a place for that behemoth; one of the kids might be losing their bedroom...

Bought the exact same safe from Norm!

If you are looking for a Browning safe, Norm can get you one for about a third off the best retail price you will find.

My second buy from Norm, both went smoothly. And no, I am not rich and do not own two of these things (unfortunately). Sold the first one to upgrade the size.

Can you get the swing-out rack installed?

He sent me his spec sheet same day (on a Sunday). Very professional email. His safes seem really nice, but I can't bring myself to pay that much for my first safe. Maybe one day when I add on to the house.

Menards has a 30 gun Sports Afield for $379

Tractor supply has a 36 gun cannon for $300 on black friday deal starting today. I ordered 9nline at 8am and picked up at lunch. Lady said they started with 25 and have 5 left.

Can you put a safe in the garage or is it too humid in the houston area?

Neighbor keeps his guns in his garage safe & claims to never had a problem with rust. It bothers me, but it's his business.

I'm so anal, I run a dehumidifier in mine inside my climate controlled house.

I was reading on CHL forum about a bunch of Houston folks who store their safes in their garage. They recommend purchasing the biggest dehumidifier rod (they specifically referenced a golden rod) that will fit in the safe. I live in the metroplex and was planning to do this.

Liberty Safes are a good mix of quality and bang for the buck. I have been more than pleased with mine. I like the lighter colored interior that reflects the lights in the safe for easier viewing in what would be dark spots in the darker interiors. The finish is not shiny like the Brownings, which are pretty, but have a texture that does not show prints.

Bought a large 1400 lb Fort Knox in 1996. Great product. I've moved it 6 time while in military and afterwords. Only problem it is full. Would definitely buy again

I keep mine in the garage and run a humidifier. No problems yet.
