Any have any experience hanging one? Seems like a lot less work and hassle than building a pen. And you avoid the issue of the pen being a deterrent to them using the feeder.

Only negative I can come up with is the feeder will move a bit while they eat from it, and from the breeze.

Thoughts?

To avoid pigs? They are typically built too high for pigs anyways.

But you're right; most pigs can't get up there.

Basically just want to avoid the expense and effort to build a pen that won't stop all pigs anyway, and may be a deterrent to some deer getting in there.

Maybe the fact that the feeder will swing a bit makes it more pig proof.

Protein not corn. Reading is fundamental.

It might help. I can confirm there is no perfect feeder height for all deer and pigs. It gets to a point where the young does can't reach it but the biggest boars still can.

Hanging it so the pigs can't get their front legs up might work but ive never heard of anyone trying.

I was really reluctant to going to feed pens but am glad i have. Use at least 7 cattle panels cut in half so 14 pieces about 25" high. Two post per section. Set it up so that parts of the pen still run back through the brush so that it blends in well. Sawzall the excess t-post sticking up. The combination of all that makes them much less obtrusive and im not having any issues with bucks entering them in daylight. Lots of pigs in the area and none inside yet.

So are you just cutting a regular cattle panel in half? I have thought about that, mainly to save money. Buying hog panels plus T posts adds up. My main concern is cows. Will the 25" panel keep cows from stepping over? Thanks

I have a protein feeder and in two years I've only seen one hog under it on the game cam.
It is on legs that came with the feeder.
I have trapped 28 hogs in the last 10 days on my property.

Yes, you can see them in these pics. Unfortunately, cant help about cows since we dont have them.

Yes we have a tri- pod feeder with hand winch. Bout mid-February we change out the spin-cast feeder with another 55gal barrel protein feeder and it works well. I set our spouts about belt high. Seems to work well.

In a lurch....last season deer stopping hitting our gravity feeder squared up with cattle panels..... on cam to verify.....no problems in previous yrs..... even opened the panel on one side to help... nothing..... Stumped....... sorry for jumping the thread but I didnt feel new thread worthy

Was thinking more on the cows and i think id try the half panels with a string of barbwire above it. Just don't do two strands close together or youll build a trap.

"Hanging" a protein feeder just sounds like a bad idea.
