Did indeed - wound up in north MS in unincorporated DeSoto County. Nice neighborhood and school for the family. (#1 rated school district in the state but it's just Mississippi after all). Pleasant country roads type of drive in for work. Mexican restaurants around here leave a lot to be desired.

If you just left Texas, any Mexican restaurants not in Southwest will have a lot to be desired.

I did use to bring up that topic, along with BBQ/brisket, until I heard a couple other people from Texas saying it, and then I just realized that I sounded like a Tesla driver or Crossfit guy whenever the topic of Mexican restaurants or BBQ comes up.

BTW, over by where you are there is a Wolf River Brisket (Goodman rd in Olive Branch). I've heard good things about it, but been a little nervous to try. If you go, let me know how it is.

I've seen decent car traffic at that Wolf River bbq but haven't tried it. Will let you know if we get to it sometime.

I just asked someone about it and they gave it an unenthusiastic, "it's ok".

And today it's hot.
I like the geography (north Mississippi) - it reminds me a lot of East Texas where I grew up. And the people too. - nice folks here around Olive Branch and Hernando. Have been enjoying the Civil War history and have been foraging chanterelle mushrooms the last couple of weeks which in ever found in TX.
We hardly ever get into Memphis and that's ok. Kind of like it was with Houston and Dallas - if I can stay out out of the city proper then so much the better.
"It's OK" fits. We do miss several things about Texas.

Happen to be in Memphis for lunch tomorrow. I've been thrice disappointed with their bbq, so maybetacos??? I'll try it.

During my childhood, my sis and I would spend a couple weeks nearly every summer with my grandmother who lived in Bartlett. She lived in a nice, quiet neighborhood with primarily elderly folk that slowly devolved into a straight ghetto. By the time we moved her into assisted living in 2016, her house was only worth $30k.
We spent many summers exploring all the sights and touristy spots throughout Memphis and I wouldn't recommend the city to anyone. I haven't been back in 5 years but having watched the city government slowly run the city into the ground for 20 years, I can't imagine it's gotten any better.
