Anybody have tips on where to fish at Goose Island State Park? I'm headed down there this weekend and fishing from a kayak

Depending on how far you want to paddle, you can float over to Blackjack point and fish the inside shoreline. Wind out of SW should make it somewhat protected. Watch for boat traffic though

If not, head north towards towards the hunting club. I like the marshes but haven't fished it out of a kayak. May be too far to paddle.

You could also carry it over to Port Bay and drop in there. Those shorelines by the bridge are good, and some little pocket cuts back there, but the water is usually chocolate milk colored.

Fish the lighted pier at night. I've also had success taking the steps off the pier early morning, wading, throwing plastics.

I've also caught them wading the north shoreline that runs east from the boat ramp. It's been years though. Just checked Google Earth, looks like a neighborhood has been built there.

Go to the big tree. The road dead ends ( well it curves to the right ). You'll see where everyone parks. There's grass and potholes all over that area. If there's bank fisherman they'll get pissed. It's a local bank fishing area but it's pretty good sometimes

There are not alot of trout in St Charles Bay this time of year.... Fishing St Charles Bay is hard in the summer.
You MAY find some good water against the refuge shoreline if the wind is right. But its a paddle to get over there.

The pier at Goose Island is still shut down - open later this summer. Boat ramp is open.

Go over to Copano Bay - Holiday Beach area or as others have mentioned over by Pt Bay Club. Should find better water over there without having to paddle your a$$ off...

LMAO about the gator comments. I grew up around gators in Louisiana. Constantly in the bayous with them and never a concern. Several years ago, I put my kayak in at the small bridge on Hwy 35 where the slough feeds into St. Charles Bay. Paddled a bit toward the bay and got out to wade fish the shallows. Almost immediately greeted by a large gator about 50 yards out and steadily moving my way. At about 20 yards out, I jumped into the kayak and got the hell outta there.

What do you want to go after?

From the boat ramp East with the pier and aransas on your right bartell islands/reefs start

Always some puppy drum and rat reds to be found on dead shrimp

Not a bad paddle either, pretty protected

Depending on your yak/aggressiveness there are a couple of other locations might be worth trying

But the reefs between st Charles and aransas are a nice spot to paddle to and get out and Wade.

If you need live bait while you are there, work your cast net around the small pier and parking lot bulkhead at the boat ramp in the park. I pulled up so much there in a short period of time I was giving it away. A lot of variety as well.

I appreciate all the advice! Went out the first morning and caught 35 (All pretty much small trout except for three keepers). Went into Port bay to try to chase some reds in the afternoon but the wind was insane so got skunked. Then on the last morning on Sunday chased some more birds and caught eight more. Great weekend! I'll be heading back soon

We used to feed them bread when we stayed at the old St Charles Bay Cottages.

The gators are getting bad. I saw a HUGE one in March.

A tried and true St. Charles bay gator! This guy popped up about 20 yards from me. This was late July.

Couple more from Saint Charles taken last summer. Saw a couple small ones in San Antonio Bay this weekend I didn't get pictures of.

Here's a bunch from the park outside Austwell.

This guy was chowing down on what I think was a hog. Could hear the bones snapping like twigs.

I fished St.Charles from a kayak about a month ago and will not go back again. It was the worst paddle back in my life. Fish Light House lakes or Nueces Bay. There are tons of spots, just look for sand pockets in grass. We had the most luck at Lighthouse the day before I fished St. Charles. Crystal clear water and I limited on reds. Had a Texas Slam but was an idiot and didnt net the flounder and he got out of my hands. I'll be down there next weekend.

Lighthouse is horrible, no good fishing there, you must be mistaken. I'd stay away from that if I were you, tell your friends as well.
