How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have 5 of the Snyper game cameras and have used them for a couple of years. Their app is pretty good for storing/sorting photos. I have been pleased with the camera performance and customer service until lately.

2 of the cameras have AT&T sim cards that Snyper no longer supports (in terms of renewing service plans). I have ordered 2 replacement Sim Hero SIM cards from Snyper but it appears Snyper is on the brink of going away and I don't think they will ever ship them out. I cannot find a way to buy a sim Hero SIM card direct.

It also appears you cannot just buy another game camera brand SIM card and have it work with the snyper cameras (sounds crazy to me as I would think a SIM card is a SIM card)

Snyper is not answering their phones and all of their mailboxes are full.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so, what was the workaround/process to bypass snyper? thanks!

You need to get Kelso in on this. He is the resident Snyper Camera guru-dealer and he help you out on this

If snyper goes away their app will likely not work anymore

They have to maintain a server(s) to send pictures to the app. No snyper, no server

I have one of their cell cameras with AT&T so I am in the same boat
The Aggie number specified has already been linked with another TexAgs account.

I read a lot of complaints about Snyper and customer service...a lot. I would look at going a different direction when buying again.

Here's what I know, and dont know...

Snyper is a small family owned company that has always struggled with keeping up. I have been a dealer for several years and have always dealt directly with one of the owners. I have not talked to them in several months because I have not placed any orders, etc. I've heard the rumors they are going under but cant substantiate them. If I had to guess, they are having supply chain issues since all their products are made in China.

I have some concerns about the app / site if they do go under but I dont know that it will go away as it isnt actually owner by them. They piggybacked their app as an interface to someone else's site.

On the OP SIM issues, I might be able to help. Shoot me your contact info- shawn@kelsoarms.com

What's a good direction to go?

Moultire? Stealth?

Anyone with any info on the ease of the apps? Are the subs pretty much standard across the board?

I have SIM Hero and AT&T Snyper cams. All is working fine now but I'm concerned long term. Heard the same rumors...

I like moultrie cameras. Stealth never been a fan. Maybe they are better. The new tactacam reveal has me intrigued but just released so I'm not sure what to think.

In cell cameras I can vouch for Spartan. I own 2 and they perform way better than my bushnell trophy cam

I would not buy a bushnell. It's an okay camera but Spartan is way better.

For the price I'm intrigued with tactacam.

If you do want a Spartan camera I can get you dealer pricing to help a fellow tex ag member. They are expensive but I like mine.

Moultrie is by far over the years been the best cell camera company for me and my budget.

I have some brownings and they are okay. One right out of box was bad and I had only bought 2 do that was alarming. Customer service was good though.

I just haven't ever had a problem with moultrie. However I dont have a cellular moultrie camera

Update on Snyper.

A friend of mine, who had an order pending with snyper since June, had an employee in the Nashville area today. He sent him by the Snyper offices to check it out & try to pick up his items.

The good news is they are not planning on going out of business. As skelso stated they are a small mom & pop outfit and lost what outside help they had. The owner and his wife were there filling orders and they are trying to catch up. The bad news is they are still behind and customer service will remain sketchy for the time being.

They filled the order for my friend today and gave him new sim cards. They were trying to find my pending order of new sim cards.... and send them out today with my friends order.

I would not rush out to buy new Snyper cameras right now, but hopefully they get their act back together. For the $'s, their cameras are pretty good deal.

Glad to hear they aren't going under. I met the owner at TTHA extravaganza years ago when they were brand new. He was polite and respectful that I was a Spartan owner at the time. The Spartan guy was trying to make sales by insulting the competition. I went back the Snyper booth and bought a camera from James, the owner of Snyper, based on the principle that he did not try to talk down his competition. I've run into him 2-3 times since then and he always remembers me. They may not be the most business savvy but I'm confident he's a good guy.

Cuddeback Cuddelink cell. Pay for one cell setup and the cameras form a network. Sends pictures via email.

Interesting...how close do they have to be to each other to form a network?

I have 2 snyper cams. Haven't received a pic since 8:44 last night. I usually have 150-200 photos overnight. Now there's a chance batteries died in both of them at the same time but I feel that's unlikely.

Anyone else stop receiving snyper pics about that same time last night?

Mine are working fine.

What SIM cards are you running?
What plan do you have them on?

For anyone who has a camera connecting via cellular modems. Winter of 2021, AT&T will be killing all bands outside of 4g LTE, winter 2022, Verizon will be doing the same. This will impact all other carriers that currently run through their towers.

For anyone who is currently connecting via 3g/1x your device will NOT continue to work past those dates (assuming carriers don't extend those dates).

I have been through the AT&T 2g shutdown and it was a massive undertaking with both carriers shutting down bands, it's going to be crazy.

We began shipping LTE cards in October of 2019 but still have 10's of thousands of devices to program over the air and replace comm hardware.

I'm sure their "proprietary wireless network" is using Lora wan. While in good conditions it's bulletproof, however when you start trying to push big data across iffy terrain/poor conditions (where most folks tend to hunt) the performance begins to suffer.

I'm not saying it won't work, just doesn't have the reliability we need for our application in the Ag Irrigation world. We can have millions of dollars at stake in some specialty crop fields that we can't afford to leave to chance.

It is funny you say that. I thought it was odd I did not get pictures last night or this morning. But I did get my mid day auto pictures so I guess they are working now. I set them up to send me a picture every day at noon so I know if they stop working.

Seems like when you ask 10 people recommendations on cell cameras you get 10 different answers. I was always a fan of the bushnell aggressor but now I am hearing lots of complaints about the new impulse. I have 2 SPYPOINT and will definitely never but another. Moultrie and colvert will be my next test.

If you are on SIM Hero sim cards, you can email them and they will pull logs and tell you if there was any activity on the account.

I have 3 cameras in the field of my own and none of them stopped sending pics. Wondering if yours really stopped sending or it the animal's patterns just changed resulting in less pics than expected during a given time. When you are at the camera next, check the SD and see if it has pics during the time window you think it wasn't sending. That will tell you if it triggered but didn't send, etc.

Also remember when they don't send, its not always an issue w/ the camera. If the cell tower you are connected to is down or congested, you will sometimes miss pics. Same if you have a weak signal but have the delay between pics set to a short interval. In this case, the camera will sometimes continue taking pics while still sending the initial picture. Subsequent pics will not be sent.

Any updates? Have a Snyper that I'd like to put back in service, and SimHero looks a little iffy, as well.

Setting it up today.

Hmmm. Registered the card with SimHero, set up data plan, all seemed good. Tried to start the camera....it claimed no sim card.

Arrrgghh.

Not recognizing the SIM? Or does it say no SD?

I have never run into one that would mot recognize the sim. I have run into issues with SD cards causing erratic behavior.

What camera do you have? 3G or 4G version? What firmware is the camera on (in menu it will say so version)

Thanks for reply, it will be a day or two before I can get back to the camera. Same SD card I've always had. 4G model, it simply said NO SIM

I wonder if it takes a while for the SIM card to get into the system
skelso
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The camera should see the SIM instantly. It does take 10 - 15 minutes for the programming to hit. It will show no signal until it does.

Make sure you put the SIM in correctly. It is possible to get then to go in upside down.

Put a piece of tape on it and put it back in, it has something to do with the spacing of the card. It works for us.
