Just had the exact same issue as OP with a pair of Corbinas. Got the exact same email. Chose black with grey P lens since they didn't offer my tortoise with green P. As soon as UPS scanned the ones I was sending back, they shipped mine. All in all less than a week to get a new pair with a day or two in there before I packaged and UPS picked up. Frustrating that they didn't have the exact ones but all in all not terrible.

Different color is one thing but if I'm sending you glass lenses I should get glass lenses back. That's something like an $80 different in price.
Totally agree, I would have been more upset with that situation. Odd thing was is that a few of the replacemnt options they gave me were for G lenses, just not in a style I would wear. While not a bad experience for me, I see the frustration. This is my only pair of Costas and will be my last. I had to find out what the hype was about but there are too many good options out there to spend +/- $200 with them.

Well... Got my offer back today from Costa...
Cracked lens is not a manufacture defect, so its not covered. They'll sell me a new pair of the same glasses for what shakes out to be 30% off. Kind of wish it was just a 30% off coupon of any pair, because I wouldn't mind changing things up (I've had the same pair for 6 years). I can probably do better than their offered price if I shop around online. Oh well....

Thanks OP, didn't know this existed. Submitted my claim and they gave me the options to replace, 580G just like the ones I have. Sent my old pair off this morning.

You guys that are getting warranty service, do you have your receipt to submit as well?

I need to send in a pair of Fantails, but I got them from EyeGuy and don't have a receipt. I'm hoping I can get by without it (and still get the warranty).

I didn't, just left it blank on the form

When I had to replace my 580G Cortez due to Neal chipping on the Costa emblem, I was super bummed that the Cortez frames were discontinued. Costa let me pick out any non-Ocearch pair, and I got the (new at the time) smoke grey mirror blue glass Rincons. Well now the enamel is coming off the Costa emblem on these, but I love this pair. Unfortunately one of the arm screws gets loose too often on this pair so I am dreading sending them in.

Sure seems like the quality is going down. I did buy another pair of 580G Cortez on eBay and still have a pair of 580G Fisch too. I love these glasses so much for fishing and everyday wear.

I just mailed mine in when the nose piece fell off. The sent me a new pair rather than repairing the old

The same thing just happened to me with my 3 year old fantails 580g. Rubber was coming off the ear pieces. Submitted the claim, mailed them in expecting a repair and 2 weeks later a brand new pair showed up.

We're they the same glasses? I'm worried they're going to send me plastic lenses.

Yes, they sent me the same exact pair, with glass lenses.

Bringing this back up because I just got an email back from Costa on my warranty issue. I have a pair of Fantails w/ blue mirror 580G lenses. Fantail is a discontinued style, so I have a few options, most of which include camo frames (which I don't really want).

The one pair of black frames has "Sunrise Silver Mirror 580G" lenses. Does anyone have any thoughts on these lenses?

I have a pair of Sunrise Silver Mirror but they're for specific situations and are not a good all-around lens color. The Sunrise Silver Mirror are meant for low-light conditions with the yellow base- so if you're coming from the blue mirror which have the gray base you won't like them for general use.

I might have missed it but what is your main usage? Daily wear? Freshwater/inshore/sight fishing? Offshore?

I'd go with the green mirror (amber base) if you can't get them in blue mirror. The Sunrise Silver Mirror on the yellow base are for very specific usage.

I hate to be that guy but the arm screws coming loose isn't a manufacturer defect. It's something that just happens over time, no matter what. Especially if you stretch out the arms but resting them on top of your head or over your hat. Go to the drug store and get a $10 eyeglass repair kit and it's got a tiny screwdriver- then when they get loose just tighten up the screw a bit. It will loosen up again but it's just what happens to literally every single pair of glasses out there cheap or expensive.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, these would be for everyday usage as well as fishing. Sadly the only options that aren't camo frames are these silver ones and a pair of 580P w/ a tan frame.

I'm going to give them a call and see if I can figure something else out.

oh I've lived with the screw getting loose for all but 2 of the 14 months I've owned them. I keep a screwdriver with me to tighten them up. They still got loose way too soon. The reason I'll eventually send them is for the enamel coming off the Costa emblem. I am still a big Costa fan.

Yeah, I'd definitely call them because they still have the Fantail listed as an available style and they show you can get the shiny black frames with the blue mirror 580G lenses.

Yeah, I'm thinking since the lenses are now called "Blue Lightwave Glass" rather than Blue Mirror, they have changed technologies or something, and are trying to replace mine with the same older lenses.

Got an email yesterday saying my glasses have shipped. No idea what they are since I talked to someone weeks ago saying I'd have to pick a replacement since mine are discontinued.

So I've been sitting in their chat queue trying to talk to someone. Started at number 17 in line, got to 2 an hour and a half ago, and I've been number 1 in line for the past hour. Now I'm waiting on their phone line as well. All while their "average wait time" hasn't gotten above 20 min and has been changing while I'm supposedly the next guy in line.

Edit: I also emailed them last week asking for an update since they had my glasses for a week and i was told I'd be picking new ones once they received mine, and never got an email back.

So, just to bring this back up and give an update (since it appears things have changed a little since Luxottica took over)... I resubmitted my claim under a different email address and also mentioned a couple of other things that were wrong with my glasses, and they were immediately covered. Same frame, same color, but they did sub 580 plastic for my 580 glass. It took almost 2 and a half weeks to get my glasses after I made the selection. All in all, I'm not too disappointed, kinda wish it woulda been the 580G's. Not really sure why my initial claim with all the right paper work was denied but my second (that I didn't put a receipt with) was covered.

Must be the luck of the draw, because i had a very similar experience about a year ago, but they had a "do you pre authorize charges up to $xxx for replacement in case the damage is not covered by warranty " thing on the warranty form. i knew when i checked that box "yes" that's what i was gong to end up paying for the replacement and sure enough that's what they billed me. Ended up being like $50 less than what I'd paid just a few months earlier for them, to replace a pair of the same ones, that I'd dropped overboard and lost. Expensive couple months for sunglasses

They sent me a link to buy a new pair at a "discount" when mine failed. $198 for a discounted pair? Thanks but no thanks

I like my Smith Guide Choice better than the Costas and will buying those again instead.

I just got my fan tails back. Bought originals in 2015. Broke the frame and replaced about one year later at a relatively low cost. Sent them in this time for nose and ear piece rubber peeling off and they replaced them. Took 10 days maybe. Much to my surprise they replaced my old 580p lenses with some 580g.
Obviously I'm still happy with their warranty for now

I just claimed and sent mine in for warranty service as well. Broke my frame in half cleaning them. Didn't have my exact pair so they gave me 5-6 options to replace with and sent me label to ship broken ones back. Had brand new pair a few days later and never paid a dime.

For as long as I've had Costa's, they do not warranty broken or cracked lenses. I have got lucky in past when I sent pairs in due to frame issues, but they also had major scratches on the lenses. On most occasions, they just send me a brand new pair.

I have 2 pairs with cracked lenses and frames that are peeling. Maybe I just need to send them in and hope for the best. I did the online warranty service and sent them pictures. They rejected it.

If the lenses are cracked, I think you're going to be out-of-luck. This last pair I sent in did have a small chip in the lense, but they went ahead and replaced entire pair.

On mine, when I put that the lens was cracked as the main reason for the warranty request, they denied it but offered a 30% discount on a new pair. Passed on that.

When I resubmitted (after wearing for several weeks with a cracked lens) because the frame was peeing and the rubber ear pieces were also kind of busted, they covered outright and sent me a new pair.

I think it's a combo of who looks at the request and what you put as the issue.

An update on mine (the OP). I was finally told I'm getting new glasses and they were shipped, but holy **** the route it took to get there.

I FINALLY got ahold of someone in the chat. It just so happened that it was the same girl (at least the name was the same) as the girl who told me I would be picking my replacements and they wouldn't ship me any before that. (Not sure what I've updated, but they shipped me 580Ps with no notice, so I tried to talk to them about it). She basically told me it had been too long and my claim was closed, even though they tell you every time you call things are taking longer because of COVID. It takes them 5 days just to email you back. I sent her the original chat, said it was you that told me I'd pick new ones, and it was almost as if she got scared because she rattled off a bunch of messages that said she'd offer me a discount on a new pair, this and that, and then just ended the chat, after I waited 2 and a half hours in line to talk.

I then emailed them, which is a difficult thing to do as well because they're inbox is always full so it rejects the email. They said "per OUR agreement, I'd get a discounted pair" I told them the only agreement that I agreed to was I'd be picking my replacements and that didn't happen. Telling me something and then just dropping the convo is not an agreement. I told them a discount doesn't mean **** because I'll never buy another pair again and everyone I know will hear about this experience if this isn't made right and how this was all a slap in the face. I included screenshots of chats, emails, everything. I got an email 5 days later apologizing and telling me to give them my top 3 choices for a new pair. They said they can send me my second choice and I was told the order was placed. I'm now waiting on my new pair to (hopefully) arrive. They give you an order number but there's nowhere to look up an order number on their site.

So after all of this, all the non responses to emails, waiting hours in the chat and on the phone, terrible customer service, I'm hopefully getting a new pair. Luxottica is an absolute cluster****.

So I figured out the warranty process to the point it's not a PITA and figured I would share...

  • If there's something wrong, it's the frames. Always the frames as mentioned above in this thread. The lenses could be messed up too but if the frames are the problem they will replace the whole thing free.
  • Once the warranty is approved you will get the option to replace with one of their options. It feels odd but you need to select one in order to generate your return shipping label.
  • Once you approve it, reach out to the customer service department...chat is best I found
  • Have the style of frame/glasses ready to go...doesn't matter which, if you're upgrading lenses or anything. BUT they do have to be in stock on Costa's website.
  • Ship your damaged glasses back
  • Wait... I sent three glasses back. I got one replacement the same week, one 3 weeks later and still waiting on one. Not sure why the discrepancy.

Anyways, figured I would throw that out there. Quality still seems to be same ole Costa and if you have some old ratty pairs where the rubber came off the frames like mine their new warranty process makes it so you can upgrade from plastic to glass or to a new frame style.
