I've got a pair of 580g Fantails with a messed up nosepiece. I sent in a claim and get this:

"We apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced.

Your request has been evaluated and is covered under warranty.

Your current model is discontinued/no longer available; however, we are able to offer you a comparable alternative option at the retail value of your eyewear.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, click on "View offer" and follow the steps.

The offer will be valid for 2 days from the date of the email."

I clicked and they have a few options, all Fantails, but different color frames/lenses and all 580p. How is replacing a pair of 580g with 580p equal value? And at that, only give me 2 days to respond? I feel like it's almost a scam at this point because they want me to send my old ones in.

You sent in a claim without the glasses?

Call em and talk to them.

I had a discontinued pair that I had sent in to be fixed, they let me pick out any frame/lens I wanted.

Same here, I had some Stringers that were discontinued.

The way their process works is you take pictures and write in any comments and they evaluate from there.

I plan on calling after work, I was just curious if anyone had any other experiences with them.

That's new then, I've always had to mail them in for evaluation.

I just mailed mine in when the nose piece fell off. The sent me a new pair rather than repairing the old

I have a pair of Fantails I need to send in for this same reason, but I need my receipt. Ordered through EyeGuy so I don't have any email confirmation.

I just filled out a claim for a couple pairs of 580G glasses and got the same email. Although my replacement options were all 580G models.

I'm pretty happy with the process. One had a small crack in the lens but it was covered.

Going thru Sam process now. Once you select the ones you want , they will ask you to mail to them via UPS the warranties ones. Then they will send you new ones

However... their customer service is crappy! Slow slow slow

I just had the same experience with some natives I filed a claim on. They were bought by Luxxotica (they also own costa, Oakley, ray ban, among tons of others) recently and the warranty policy changed for the much worse. Wife and I have probably had a dozen pair of natives over the years and the solid warranty was a big factor even though we've only used it once prior to this. I'm done with any Luxxotica brand from now on. The service sucks too on top of the new crappy policy.

...so I put on my Costas today and I have a cracked lens. No idea how they got cracked, haven't worn them much over the last couple of weeks because we haven't been able to get out much.

I've used their warranty 3 or 4 times in the past and it's been great. This pair has been in twice because of earpiece issues, and they replaced out right and upgraded me to 580g lenses the last time.

Anyone had an lens issue, and how did they handle it? Pay for repair? Discount on new pair?

I'm not really expecting much because this isn't really a manufacturer issue, just wondering what yall's experience has been.

I had a crack in mine (not really sure how I did it) but they covered everything and are shipping me a new pair for no charge.

I had to pick out a new pair as well.

I also sent in a broken counterfeit pair and they said if I would let them keep it for their attorneys, they would send me a new pair for free. So, got two new pairs.

I had same experience as OP recently. None of my replacement options included 580G. I attempted to contact customer service multiple times with no response. Finally a few weeks later I went back to my claim and selected a pair from their offer. Yeah, I got them replaced for free, but no mirrored or glass lenses. Still a bit annoyed by it.

FYI, this is part of why I bailed on Costa. Luxottica buyout will be changing a LOT of their customer service going forward. Already pissed me off something fierce multiple times. I'm done.

I filed a claim with them a month back. They required a few pictures of the damages. Then I got an email saying that is covered under warranty. Mailed them off and received the new ones in less than two weeks. I have a new decal if anyone wants it?

Anything change from a quality standpoint or are they about the same?

So far, no. And I think Oakley pretty much stayed the same after the buyout. But, it's been a while since I've messed with Oakley

Man their warranty used to be great. Had a pair of 580g harpoons that were destroyed by a puppy, definitely not a warranty issue. I sent them in and they sent me a new pair in about a week for $25. This was 5-6 years ago.

The same thing just happened to me with my 3 year old fantails 580g. Rubber was coming off the ear pieces. Submitted the claim, mailed them in expecting a repair and 2 weeks later a brand new pair showed up.

We're they the same glasses? I'm worried they're going to send me plastic lenses.

Mine couldn't have been more than two years old, so they mailed me the exact pair. They are Zane's with plastic lenses.
The reason I sent them is that, I had the costas cable and decided to pull it off and the rubber over the ears came off with it. I thought for sure that wasn't warrantied. Magically I still had the receipt? I don't know how that happened?

Just had the exact same issue as OP with a pair of Corbinas. Got the exact same email. Chose black with grey P lens since they didn't offer my tortoise with green P. As soon as UPS scanned the ones I was sending back, they shipped mine. All in all less than a week to get a new pair with a day or two in there before I packaged and UPS picked up. Frustrating that they didn't have the exact ones but all in all not terrible.

So their warranty might be a PITA but their overall quality will still be good, right?

Who doesn't Luxottica own? I'm not in the market but the only other lenses that I think are worth a crap, especially for fishing, are Smith.

The thing with rubber coming off of various parts is a tech issue that's ubiquitous in the industry. As I understand it the oils produced by human skin when we sweat and stuff in sunscreen basically, over time, can break down the glue used to attach the rubber parts to the frame. And nobody has figured out an adhesive that doesn't break down that they can use.

I've got a pair of MJ.

They were a gift but I never wear them. MJ lenses seem subpar compared to my Costa and not as robustly made.

If you want hassle free life time warranty on polarized sunglasses you need to check out Shady Rays. Awesome company and great glasses. Also super affordable.

Sunglasses that are super affordable and lifetime warranty are mutually exclusive....Company cannot outrun that without significant exclusion policies.

Different color is one thing but if I'm sending you glass lenses I should get glass lenses back. That's something like an $80 different in price.

I have a pair of SR's, I got them as a backup/beater pair to use in the pool and stuff. They're my daily wear glasses while my Costa issue is getting resolved. They're alright, but the mirroring is already coming off. They don't seem any nicer than a pair of polarized glasses they keep on the spinning racks at academy/BPS/walmart. My SRs will get sent back once I get my Costa's back.
