We just dug another pond at our place near Spur, TX. Looks like we will need some bentonite to seal up a couple of areas that are a little too sandy. Any recommendations on where to buy it?

Might try a concrete or well supply house in the area. You may also try with BYK/southern clay in Gonzales to see who their distributors are, but I don't think they are set up for retail sale and might not be much help.

NRCS will likely have a list of equipment operators in the area who may have arrangements to buy in bulk. You have to blend it into the soil, not pour it on top for it to seal, and that takes a disc harrow, rippers, or tiller.

I bought a pallet of bagged bentonite granules for the same purpose at Becker Supply in Slaton last year. I'd guess you could find it closer to Spur, but I'm not certain.

Try your local feed store. Many carry it.

You can find it at any place that sells water well supplies or water well pumps. You could also try a local drilling company. GICONN in Lubbock has it for sure.

I just used Texas Sodium Bentonite for my place in Burnet county. They shipped truckload (+/- 23 tons) COD. It is expensive since material is trucked from mine in Big Bend area. Trucking, I assume, is the biggest part of the cost.

We did blanket coverage of 60' x 45' area with 1 load and had 4-5 yards of material left over to use on another pond.
