I recently added a wonderful new rifle to my collection, a used Winchester Model 70 .243 Lightweight. I love old .243s as I grew up watching my grandfather hunt with my great grandfather's custom mauser action .243. When I found a this one that came with the original stock, a synthetic m70 stock, and a youth wood stock I couldn't pass it up. It may become my 8 year old son's rifle until he can carry the weight of Marlin 336 30-30 that will be passed to him as the 3rd generation to hunt with it.
My issue is it has rings mounted to it that I have tried to remove, but they aren't moving. I would like to add a set of rings but can't find the proper ones that fit. I have tried Leupold std and dual dovetail rings but none will fit inside the bases. What rings can I purchase that will fit? (Likely mounting a Leupold VX2 4-12 40MM)
Also who is the recommended gunsmith in central DFW to help me bed the stock(s)? also need to bring my grandfather's mauser and have his warped stock redone or replaced as it's making contact with his barrel.
