I've got 3 axis hides to be sent to be tanned and was wondering how you packaged your shipment. Hides are currently frozen solid in the deep freeze. Would I be ok to place them in a styrofoam cooler and tape the hell out of it?

Would be shipping from New Braunfels so I'm assuming UPS ground would be the same as overnight delivery.

TIA

Disclaimer - I have never personally shipped a hide

Had a buddy that ran a tannery and he always told me it took about 2-3 days for a hide to fully thaw. Now, that might be completely thawed and in condition to be fleshed. Regardless, you should be able to send a frozen hide in the mail overnight no problem.

I've sent ducks overnight that were frozen and wrapped in newspaper. Taxidermist just said wait for a colder set of days and you'll be fine, even if it's two day delivery.

I would call and confirm but I wouldn't hesitate to send those hides in a styrofoam cooler with no ice if it's overnight.

I've used them once for an Elk hide but I dropped it off in person. I just checked their FB page to see if they had any shipping advice but I didn't see anything useful. I did see this however:

"Starting January 1, 2020

We will no longer accept Bobcats, Coyote, Beaver, Otters, Badgers , Fox, Raccoons. We are going to specialize in the other skins and improve our turnaround time and quality.

I frozen hides solid, double wrapped in trash bag, boxed in cardboard and kept in the freezer until right before last ground pickup for the day. Arrived with no problems but I did call ahead and give them a BOLO for the box

I've done 2 shipments to them. Same strategy as others. Double bagged. Froze hides skin Together when folding. I also called ahead - it's not real official though. I think I did next day shipping from college station. But I think ground would have got there in a day. First shipment about 3-4 years ago was 6 month turnaround. Last one I received earlier this hear was about 8-9 month.
