Looking at purchasing another gun. Definitely want a 9mm. Primarily a truck gun with occasional carry. Interested in the sig m17 or m18. Does anyone have experience with either? Any other options I should be considering. I already have a P938 and Kimber ultra carry. TIA for the help!

M17 vs M18 is essentially the same gun with exception of sight radius, and the balance in hand will be slightly different but not significant enough to say one is better than the other.

if you really want a striker gun with manual safety then these are the ones i would recommend considering, but if you are willing to entertain either striker no manual safety or hammer fired, then there are more options I would recommend considering.

Since you said truck gun, i would tend to recommend as inexpensive but still reliable for this some of the police trade in .40s would be worth considering at under $300.

Yep, and as an aside, the pistol you're looking for is the p320. They make versions that are configured like an m17/18, but the civilian version is still the p320. Seemed a bit on the expensive side for just a truck gun, as I would also lean pawn shop / used / gently used police trade-in. I wouldn't recommend a .40 in a carry size if you're not used to it or aren't going to shoot it a lot. They can be very snappy rounds - you're probably wise to stick with 9mm.

Won't get into the economics or ethics of leaving it in your truck full-time/overnight, just want to put up the PSA that we've had a LOT of threads over the years about pistols stolen from center consoles.

Thank y'all for the quick responses. Definitely won't be leaving in the truck overnight or unattended. I had a HK 40 and hated it. Never shot right.

I am left handed so having ambi safety and mag releases are a must. I'm open to more suggestions.

Someone else might have an idea, but you won't find many more striker-fired with an ambi safety if a manual safety is important to you. I really enjoy shooting my p320, so not trying to talk you out of it.

If you just need ambi controls (slide and mag release), then plenty of other options for you that can be had stock or by replacing a single part. You can try holding or shooting most of these if the p320 doesn't work for you.

STRIKER-FIRED:
Walther PPQ
Glock 17/19
Beretta APX
HK VP9

HAMMER GUNS:
Beretta PX4
HK P30

Sig is a solid choice. I have two P320s with the new X triggers.

I'll throw in that Sig has the best customer service I've ever dealt with.

Another choice is the Glock 19X. This is my bedside gun and I have a Streamlight weapons light on it.

I own several P320s and have had the M17 for a while now.

Its a solid pistol but the trigger is certainly in need of improvement. Out of the box I like the trigger better than any stock Glock trigger as I think it has about the same pull weight but much less take up.

The Sig flat face low weight trigger would be a great upgrade.

The fact that it is my only striker fire pistol that I own with a thumb safety means I take my M17 with me lots of places as my carry weapon. If I don't have it I have my P320 X compact.

The M18 has the advantage of having the full length frame pc to prevent the slide from traveling back and unseating the chamber in close qtr hand to hand fighting situations.

You will be happy with either if you spend some time at the range breaking it in and getting to know the pc.

A guy did something really stupid at my range recently and destroyed his P320 Legion X5 by putting some stupid overpowered and yet poorly made ammo through it that destroyed the thing.

Sig overnighted him a new pistol to our gun club with the only stipulation being he sent them the destroyed pistol for eval.

I can't stress enough it was not the pistol. If you looked at the ammo he was using I can only say he was an idiot for ever putting it into the pistol. Visually the bullets were all a different length in the box. If you screw up the head space in a firearm chamber bad things can happen. Add in the overpower of the round and a bad thing did happen.

Damn good way to get seriously injured.

Sig was great and easy to deal with. I have several and purchased my P320 X carry based on my experience with them.

Thank you both! I'm definitely going to try them both out before purchasing but I'm leaning towards the m-18 just from a size comparison. I'm glad to hear everyone is having good experiences with Sig

Nice collection. Only downside of the M18 is it doesn't come in black.

Coming from a lefty, here's a little trick I use on mag releases. Instead of swapping them and working them with my thumb (the normal way) I leave them set up for a righty and work them with the middle finger of my left hand. It's actually faster and requires me to shift my grip less than a thumb press. Give it a try. I've actually had two friends who are right-handed switch their mag releases to lefty so they can do this.

Just picked up a trade in "carry" 320. (Compact slide, full frame).

Going to get it milled for a red dot, SBR it and throw it in a B&T USW chassis.

Decided to sell the P938 to fund the M18 if anyone interested. Cross posted in classifieds https://texags.com/forums/50/topics/3086793
