Pig hunting with a knife or spear is a real thing. Kinda crazy but to each his own. Need some really good dogs to tie them up.

What is the minimum caliber your guides recommend for shooting mountain lions?
Pretty close to killing a deer under a corn feeder.RCR06 said:
I am in no way criticizing this hunt or anything yall did. I'm glad you posted about it. Ive looked into a similar hunt a few times.
My question is after working so hard to catch up to where the dogs are is it weird shooting it out of a tree? I know dogs are the best(and maybe only) way to hunt mountain lions and when you use dogs they're going to tree it. I also know theres more to it than just pulling the trigger. Again, I don't have a problem with this type of hunting and would like to do it some day. Just curious about your thoughts since you've actually been in this situation.

Yup, my first thought, too.
Not much different from killing deer under corn feeder, hunting in a high fence, using electronic caller for varmints. Different strokes for different folks. You could even argue hunting quail/pheasant with a dog. Sure, 99.9% of quail hunting is with a dog, but by using a dog as your way of locating the animal you aren't hunting any differently then using a hound to tree a lion? My german shorthair pointer can run for 5+ miles and then point (hopefully) a covey of quail. I then walk up 10' from them and they flush. Dog does the work and I do the walking and killing. Not much different than lion hunting.
Oh yes. I run quite a bit, among other things. Currently working/living at a fairly high altitude as well, so I'm getting acclimated.AGGIE WH08P said:
Awesome. You're going to love it!!
Have you been exercising? If not, I'd highly encourage it. Find a treadmill and set that SOB as steep as she'll go.
