Yeah there's a metric eff ton of difference between a doctor telling you you need to lose weight and some cheese d!ck on a forum you don't even know doing so when you didn't ask his opinion about your weight.

And Bender your instructor mentioned it in a much much more tactful way than the afore mentioned cheese d!ck.

Yes it's obvious. Just like a smoker knows that smoke is... get this... bad for you! WHAT? No...

Yeah, people who are over weight generally know it. When they ask about dealing with an issue considering the already known and acknowledged issue of a weight problem, as the OP did, pointing out the weight problem as the solution is a really really ****in stupid thing to do. And a d!ck move at that.
I don't understand why pointing out the best solution is a dick move

I think the reason phideaux reacted so much more negatively to that suggestion than the OP or any of the rest of us fluffy people is that apparently based on some sort of pasta feud, he automatically is more sensitive/prone to take whatever the other guy says in the worst way possible.

It didn't offend my fat ass.

Let's pretend the OP just joined Gold's, hired a trainer, and will have SEAL level metrics in a year. He's still gotta figure out how to carry between now and then.

And I put jalapenos in a jar of Prego and call it arriabiata.

Because it wasnt the question asked and last,i,checked, losing weight takes time. Doesnt help,to,solve the problem at the moment if the solution is 6 months down the road, now does it?

To help answer the original question, I wear an under shirt all the time, even in the summer. My over shirts are not clingy. I wear a kydex IWB holster at the 4 o'clock location during the summer months and an OWB holster at the 3:00-3:30 position during the winter months. I did this for a couple years with a G19, then switched to a CZ Rami (still double stack) for summer and a CZ PO1 for winter.

I'm 5'11" and was 275lbs when I started carrying, until this year I'm down to 254 now.

No, and I agree it's not the direct immediate solution, just don't see how that makes it a dick move to suggest when in the long run it's indisputably the best outcome.

This is entirely true. In all fairness Bender I know you're a stand up guy and don't mean any harm by your suggestions. But coming from him it felt really malicious.

Interesting point about fasting....

When the wife and kids would go out of town and I was left to my own devices working around the house for a week, I tended to drink a big ass cup of coffee, work my ass off, then not eat anything at all until I ate supper around 9pm when it got dark. I lost a bit of weight, even though I didn't need to lose it. Just eating a lot less and working a lot more. The wife said it wasn't a good idea to do stuff like that but I literally just worked so much I forgot to eat. After some reading she found that apparently that style of eating is some kind of fasting diet.

After a few days of this, I didn't miss food during the day. I didn't feel heavy and weighed down so Ranch work was easier. Then I'd just eat a PILE of food at supper....but still less than it would have been if I ate three meals.

Weird. Anyway. No useful information just a musing if mine.

And folks wonder why 1/2 of the "core posters" of the OB stopped posting here all together and the ones left are complaining that this place is dead.

Newsflash: the posters that left are still posting and keeping the community alive, it's just not on TA any more

Unless you are talking about harming one of my family members, or potlicking my wade when I am on fish, you're gonna get a pass from me on almost any comment. I've seen blood spilled over less and that seems ridiculous to me. At the same time, I appreciate someone standing in defense of bullying.

I appreciate those that have piped in with info on how best to carry, when in this situation, as not knowing how I would do it, has kept me from getting my CCL so far. If I had added details that I was down some weight and still working on it, to my original post, it may have avoided the whole pasta sauce war, but then again, it may not have.

I'll keep posting, because the OB makes me laugh, and I think we still pass around good info. Also, I would rather talk to hunters and fishermen that are mildy nuts, versus random whackjobs from a cross-section of society who don't know **** from shinola about anything useful to me.

Long Live the OB!

Well put Angler and I appreciate your candor.

If you're in Houston I'm happy to meet with you for lunch one day (salads? :-) ) and discuss all of my troubles with the issue over the years.

As stated I was a touch over 500lbs at one time and I'm currently clockin' 267 on the ole bathroom scale, so still a ways to go but certainly quite a physical change!! I've got some experience there.

There's no secret recipe. If anything fat guys have it a little easier because they already tend to wear looser clothing than somebody used to wearing schmedium.

A gun belt is the most important piece. Not a thick belt, not a dress belt, a gun belt designed to carry the weight of a gun. I like Magpul Tejas beltsfor leather, any of the wilderness style belts is pretty good for non leather.

A good belt and a good holster is more at issue than weight for finding a way to conceal all day comfortably.

But keep kicking ass on the weight loss front too. It's easier for me to carry now than it was 30 lbs ago.

Truth on the gun belt thing. Love my Tucker Gunleather belt and get this... Tucker can make your belt with a fully removable buckle strap so you can remove the strap and buckle, cut down the length of the belt and punch new holes in it, reattach the buckle and you have a shorter belt!

I've done it twice now since my initial weight loss.

I think this thread has been great. It has served as a bit of inspiration for me to get my fatass losing some weight.
Me too. Interesting discussion on carry options with a side of weight loss discussion, and a dessert of foodie cat fight. The plant based diet is interesting. I just watched the Joe Rogan interview with Pat McNamara. McNamara eats collard greens, spinach, green peppers and chicken as his go to main meal. I may try something like that (with some substitutions). I am not sure I could swear off meat entirely.

You still need some animal based protein. Costco has products which are keto-friendly, such as a pancake mix made from almond flour, coconut flour, etc called Birch Bender. They also have a keto-friendly chicken sausage from Sabitelli (sic?) which gets you away from the monotonous taste of baked chicken. All that being said, the plant based option is really good for however long you can tolerate it. Good luck!

I have some extra in the front that makes it impossible to carry there so I carry IWB just back of the right hip with shirt untucked. Very comfortable even when sitting. I use a Sticky brand IWB holster.

Not to derail thread further, but this is actually really healthy to fast for short periods.
