According to his Instagram account, Franklin BBQ Pits will be released this fall. One of the pits is going up on eBay tonight for a charity fundraiser. That should be fun to watch. I took a screenshot of the upcoming eBay listing description that he had on IG. Looks like these will retail for about $3500. Based on my conversation with him a few months ago, the signup list is over 40,000 and he plans to make about 1000 smokers or so a year.

Happy bidding, y'all!

Think I'll save that money and buy $3500 worth of Snow's BBQ instead.

that's not a lot of pit for that kind of money.

Can get just as good of a pit (or probably even better) for less money, but these will sell well just because it has his name on it and people will think it will magically make their bbq better.

Needs larger wheels and a foldable shelf.

Wonder who is building these for him. They look a lot like Millscale which run $4150 and he has a two year wait.

DAAAAYUM! Buy the same pit from Lyfe Tyme out of Uvalde for about $2,500.00 less.

That said, if he can get that money for those pits, more power to him.
Watching some of his shows, he seems like a pretty good dude. I've had his BBQ, it was great... couldn't say it was the best I've had though.

I'd like to have one, but like most of you I'm not getting on a waiting list or paying $3500 for one. It's hard to tell from that perspective on cooking chamber size. Looks very similar to the lyfetime smoker that's about $1300 and the old country Brazos that's $1000.

He makes/designs his pits at his restaurant(or at least he did at one time). There was an episode he did on pit building for that series that was on PBS. He was very knowledgeable. So I have no doubt that these pits are well designed and built. You know the old saying, they're worth what someone will pay for them. Apparently people can't wait to give him their money.

I wouldn't pay that much, but if I was in his shoes and could get $1000 more per, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Well the Johnson brothers were going to be building them until they decided to start Mill Scale and left.

It is my understanding that Franklin has a shop and fabricators building these who are working for Franklin. Not a subcontracted out to some other pit builder.

These are not the same steel as the ones you list. Most likely these are built outta 1/4 wall steel tube.

Like the original pit he got from John Mueller? I am not bashing Aaron Franklin by any means but he got his start, and still uses today, with someone else's pit.

no dampers or thermometer? the wheels/casters look like nice custom fabbed from steel.

I'm not an offset guy but it looks like every other backyard offset to me. The price is high but I kind of assume stuff not built in China these days is going to be expensive (Of course I am assuming this is not built in China).

I think the thermometer is on the far left side of the pit, not on the lid. You can barely see it in the photo above. It's in line with the handle.

Lol, thanks. When I read your post, I thought to myself "damn, a thermometer is kind of important. No way it isn't included." And when I looked again, I didn't see it either. Then after a good look, I spotted what looked like one.

I'd also add a hot plate over the firebox so you can toss a skillet on there and fry up some eggs, bacon, etc. or cook beans or collard greens or what not.

Honestly not seeing what would make this worth $3500. You can get the local FFA chapter at your high school to fab one like this up for about 1/4 of the price in probably less time.

Most HS Ag shops have access to a plasma CAD system, that's a pretty easy fix...

As a fabricator, their prices are shocking, but even more shocking is that people are stupid enough to pay that. The welding and fab work on those are nothing special enough to justify the pricing. The mill scale guys are super nice great guys, I've told them the same thing. Anyone making boat loads of money off BBQ pita ought to ride the wave while they can. It's one of the hardest things to build and actually make money on.

Good for him to market his brand like this, but that is absurd for $3500.

Hell, the New Braunfels smokers at Academy do the same thing for $200.

Oh ok, so since he started with one from mueller he couldn't have made any of the others? Im not a franklin worshiper, but I respect what hes done. I went there a few months back to eat and we were allowed to go see the pits. They had 5 or 6 pits I believe, I heard he bought 1 pit from mueller when he started. Talking with one of the guys working the pits he said that several of their pits were damaged in a fire that happened in 2017. Hes the one that said franklin designed and helped build the new pits. Didn't really get into how many or which ones had to be replaced. Could have been bs, but that's the story I got.
