Just bought a used bass boat to take my son out to catch some fish. Does anyone have any tips on what to use and any technique tips? TIA

I've had decent luck at Summerville but Gibbons and Limestone have been better to me.

Somerville is tough. This time of year you'll need to find some offshore structure and brush piles. Try jigs, Texas or Carolina rigs.

When in doubt. Throw out a little George. Worked for us back when. Bet the fish haven't seen that one in a while. It was all we had

Troll a white or yellow 1/16th pet spoon behind a chrome hellbender (with hooks removed).
Killer on white bass and hybrids. Anytime of year
You can find a u tube how its done.

What are you wanting to catch? For largemouth, Shallow diving square-bill cranks bounced off of the rocks near islands with deeper water, off the rocks near the dam, of right now with the lake high over submerged brush. Texas rigged plastics off of the same areas. Target depth changes, drop offs, and submerged structure with jigs and texas rigs. Top waters early in morning and late in the evening. Summer is a tough time for bass fishing with the temps out. Fall patterns will be coming soon.

White bass, watch for schooling early in the morning and late in the evening near the dam, welch park, and the south east end of the lake. Throw small baits in shad patter (3" or smaller), small shallow diving square bill cranks, small spoons, 3/8oz rattle trap chrome or shad colors. Small curl tails and jigs as well. You can also find them using sonar, find the shad and you will find the whites and hybrids. Trolling is an effective way to locate fish. The pet spoon on a hellbender or any crankbait is always a good start.

With the water up there's a submerged island right around here. Might be able to see some brush out of the water. Should have some fish.

Somerville marina can be good at times. Crank the boat docks and there is some grass by the Overlook Park Road. Tournaments release there bass there and sometimes they stay there or move out to the islands at the mouth.

Thanks for the tips! We are going back out this upcoming Saturday and will use these tips. thanks again!

This past saturday it was very slow, but we managed a good size bass (5.35lb) at about noon in the channel between the land and the island across from Lake Somerville marina. caught him on a white spinner. He was in about 5 ft of water.

I'm not a bass fisherman but with this new boat and his love for it I need to learn! Thanks for the help!

Gibbons creek is the best lake around Cstat. Caught a lot of fish there. Somerville is great for crappie and catfish.
