The second you notice any kind of hole forming, go to the doctor. The infection is dangerous.
AND...be sure to let the board know....

And let us know if your senses become amplified, you are gaining super human strength, and you begin climbing walls.

Well only one was in the bed, the one that got me. The rest were dead in the same bedroom. And one dead in the master bedroom. Still I refuse to sleep in the guest room again.

Apparently this is fairly common around here (Midland/Greenwood). We've talked to several people now that said they have had BRs in their houses in the area.

The pest guy today seemed certain we could get rid of them. We will see.

100% for sure brown recluses. No question. All of them.
So light the fire and walk away?

Why in the hell would we have 4 brown recluses in the spare bedroom? Would that be considered an infestation? I know this is Midland and all, but I don't want one of the kids getting bit. Any thoughts on what to do? I'll have a pest company out here tomorrow.

Late to the party, but did your wife take out a life insurance policy for you recently?

And have you gone to get a CPAP yet?

Still alive and kicking. Actually feel pretty good today so all those betting against me or looking to snag the wife, guns, truck, tools etc are going to be disappointed.

Sounds like an anticlimactic ending!

Richline, glad you are okay.
Oh and thanks for keeping the deadly spiders on the other side of Midland from me.

So far no adverse reactions except it was still and sore to the touch for a bit. And now it itches like crazy.

Great. I thought it was incredibly painful so this thread is intriguing. Glad it doesn't appear to be that way!

This is the next step after the itching, unfortunately:

Prevention
Spiders in general, including the black widow and brown recluse, bite only in defense, when being trapped between your skin and another object.
To prevent spider bites:
  • Learn what dangerous spiders look like and their preferred habitat.
  • Wear a long-sleeved shirt, hat, long pants tucked into socks, gloves and boots when handling stored boxes or firewood, and when cleaning out sheds, garages, basements, attics and crawl spaces.
  • Inspect and shake out gardening gloves, boots and clothing before use.
  • Use insect repellents, such as DEET, on clothing and footwear.
  • Keep insects and spiders out of the house by installing tightfitting screens on windows and doors, sealing cracks where spiders can come in, and using safe indoor insecticides.
  • Remove piles of rocks or lumber from the area around your house and avoid storing firewood against the house.
  • Make sure beds aren't pushed against the wall and that only the legs of the bed touch the floor. Don't store items under the bed and don't let bedding drag on the floor.
  • Vacuum spiders and spiderwebs and dispose of them in a sealed bag outside to prevent reentry into the house.
  • If a spider is on your skin, flick it off with your finger rather than crushing it against the skin.
  • When cleaning tarantula enclosures, wear gloves, surgical mask and eye protection.

I always thought this was the only method for tarantulas

I'm reserving that for the house if the pest control method doesn't work.

I have been bitten twice. Caught it early, treated with topical steroid cream and dapsone, it was about like an ant bite.

Don't worry OP. I am sure we can put together a response team in short order for your problem. You have a "Protected by Texags OB" sticker right?

What did your bite look like. Trying to see if I got bit by same thing.

Just a bump with two fang marks, but I killed the culprit so I knew what got me. Thankfully mine didn't progress into anything worse.

Yeah. No idea of what is causing what looks like a bite on my arm don't remember getting bit or seeing any spiders around my house. Keeping a watchful eye out and maybe I'm going to get a flash light and go looking around.

Good luck. 5 recluses later I was ready to fire up the pear burner and light the place up.

Showed up yesterday but just noticed tonight the large red circle around it and a small amount of blistering on one side.

Now that we know you're going to live, I can't believe no one has asked what you did to get sent to the spare bedroom by your wife. So....what landed you in the dog hou.... err I mean ... in the spider house?

I would go to the doctor ASAP. Mine did not even get nearly that bad.

I think I've been convinced to get checked out for a CPAP.

This bite is dangerous. Go to the doc, get it scraped out.

It is a hemotoxin, which means it destroys blood. Once these things go necrotic, they usually do not get better without digging the dead tissue out.

Yeah, this is an urgent care visit for me. And I am incredibly hardnosed when it comes to medical stuff. They will probably start flushing and cutting. This has definitely progressed to the "body is not handling it very well" stage. Those I saw that got better never turned black.

Good luck buddy.
