Beretta A400 or Benelli Montefeltro Silver. Used for Dove mainly.

oof I don't think you can make a wrong choice between those two.

The A400 will cycle a little faster and easier takedown in my opinion.

But some prefer the inertia driven over the gas in the Beretta.

For me, I'd give just ever so slight advantage to the Beretta because I find it softer shooting. But really is hard to pick one over the other. You'll be doing more than just fine regardless

How can we (the OB) recommend shotguns wildly over your budget when you pick the two most expensive autos out there?
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Obligatory "why not both?!"

Surprised there hasn't been the "shoulder both and choose what feels best" post yet. Maybe I'm too early.

I'd go with the a400. I have one and like it.

Benelli. SBE 3 camo. Silver will scare the doves away and you won't shoot any.

If it's primarily for dove I'd consider the Benelli Ethos or Cordoba. I have the ethos and I love it. It's easy to swing and comfortable to shoot.

I have a Benelli 20 gauge. Love it!

Benelli montefeltro silver is the lolpoor benelli legacy.

Benelli.

Benelli will recoil more because of the inertia drive, but you never have to worry about blowing a gasket in the middle of a hunt.

Damn, day late and a dollar short - that was going to be my recommendation.

Forgot to mention I'm coming from an 870. A400 version would be xplor.

Could go to the other OB extreme....

ASI 249.99 just as good.

I have both gun. I generally prefer the A400 because it's a much softer shooter, however, the Benelli is lighter and handles a little quicker.

Whoever said the Beretta was easier to take down doesn't have a Benelli. The Benelli is almost as easy to take down as an over under. That doesn't mean the Beretta is difficult though

I would make a vote for the Berreta. Would also say a Browning Golden Clays if they still made them. I have one and still prefer it over the Berreta as far as felt recoil.

I did not mean to imply the Benelli was difficult by any stretch, I was simply referring to the cleaning of the inertia system is just a step or two more than cleaning the gas.

Kind of analogous to the difference between a piston or gas impingement AR in my simple mind. Neither are hard just one has more parts than the other.

And both are perfectly good systems that will serve someone well.

Sold my Montefeltro and bought an A400.

A400 has considerably less recoil. Bottom line is if you have both fitted for you, they're both awesome. Both will cycle almost all shells. It's rwally a recoil preference.

My Montefeltro wouldn't cycle 3 inch shells. Benelli makes other guns more geared to that.

Should easily cycle 2-3/4 and 3" shells. It's designed to do so. The big thing with inertia driven guns is weight. Shouldn't have a problem with anything over 1oz. Sometimes 7/8 oz rounds won't cycle With inertia guns, but if your gun wouldn't cycle 3" 1oz rounds, take it to get checked out. It should run those no problem.
