Some of these gifts are ridiculous. Must be nice to have wealthy parents...

A groomsman gift I received was a small soft sided cooler that came with inserts designed to hold 6 beer bottles. It had my initials monogrammed on the side. 7 years later its still my work lunch box. Similar to this:

That and the pair of raybans I got from another wedding have been the most used groomsmen gifts for me

?

Most of these gifts run about $40-$50 each.

I had 4 groomsmen, decanters ran about $40 per set to have made, liquor was another $40 or so. Less than $400 for gifts, which is a small price to pay to ask friends to take a weekend out of their lives to dress like monkeys for a couple of hours for me and my wife.

Everyone starts from a different point on the scale. When I was getting married, I was a newly commissioned 2Lt in the Air Force. I over-extended to buy my fiance a very humble engagement ring, I was trying to put her through college, starting a new household from ground zero, etc. All I could afford to do for my groomsmen was buy beer, cook them a nice meal, spend quality time with them, and let them know how much I appreciate them.

Bottom line...your friends understand your situation. They'll appreciate any sincere effort you make.

Or we weren't so poor that spending a couple hundred bucks was a big deal.

Quickly jogging through the thread I was under the assumption that many of these gifts were over $200 bucks for each guy. My bad to ruffle feathers

I did Benchmades with their name engraved into the blade. Those were a big hit with everyone.

I'll throw out that Costas would be a good one....

I'd say the most expensive gifts listed on here are the "pay for their tuxes comments"

Which is why I got married in jeans.

Edit: misread $200 total vs $200 for each person. Yes, $200 for each person would be a bit much. Outside of people paying for the tuxes, I doubt many of the stuff listed here gets anywhere close to that. $40-70 per person seems to be pretty standard from all the weddings I've stood in, assuming a "normal" sized wedding party.

Waxed canvas bags for me were $99 monogrammed. Tuxes were about $150. I had 4 people with me.

I also got married at 28, so none of this was breaking the bank. Not everyone gets married at 22 and relies on their parents (or has 7 freaking people standing up there). The number of people and the age are the key determinant of the gift.

I had Eyeguy put my groomsmen's initials on some big Deep South Barrel mugs and gave them to the guys before the wedding. They all loved them and drank out of them all night. They are definitely unique and hardly anyone at the wedding had ever even heard of them before. Pair that with some good cigars and you'd be set.
