We got ours from a breeder in Huntsville. Wrigley. He's 3 years old.

Looking for another soon though. Would love Tracey's info.

Good looking pup! Actually, the week prior. She's doing great thus far and my kids are loving her.

Who deals in the smaller (miniature) goldens? I'm looking for a Addition to the family.

*Field Golden* is what you're looking for. Tons of options out there. They aren't "miniature", but usually in the 55-75 pound range. A quick google search will come up with tons of breeders all over and you can compare that way. That's what I did and it worked out great.

Old thread, but at a minimum look for OFA clearances on hips, elbows, eyes, and heart. Look for history of cancer in the pedigree. Test, trial, obedience etc titles in the pedigree would be great and display biddability. Great breeders do early neuro stim and put a **** ton of effort into the pups those first few weeks. Do not buy a doodle, from a backyard breeder, or someone solely concentrating on coat color. There are also breed specific rescues if you don't want to cough up the price for the above. Not a complete list at all but here are some that come to mind:

Topbrass
Adirondac
Emberain
Gallo Gold
Saturday Night
Sutter Bay
Vintage
SkyRiver
Watermark
Thunderstruck
Katian
I posted this on the previous page.

She does. We actually didn't get the papers proving it but we understand why and trust her on the process. She did come with the first round of shots and a vet exam.
Could you share why the breeder couldn't provide the proof of clearances?

Can HIGHLY recommend Katian. Great dogs and our Maggie is a tremendous dog. Katy is good to work with.

So many of these breeders seem to focus on hunting. My primary interest is in finding a friendly and gentle golden. any thoughts on direction?

It's more like won't. She doesn't provide papers to stop back yard breeders using her dogs as breeding stock. She feels they use that as way to charge more. We are not interested in breeding. We did our research on her and talked to a few owners, many are multiple dog owners of hers over many years.

They're all friendly and gentle. I would still reach out to them and ask about litters meant for pet homes. All of these are responsible breeders and some do temperament testing to place puppies with the appropriate homes. Some that I know breed for pet homes on occasion are Vintage, Sutter Bay, Topbrass, and Emberain. Even a high caliber gun dog can make a good house dog though. One of my boys is out of an FC AFC MH FDHF x HRCH UH MH breeding. He is a great house dog and my buddies fight over who hunts next to me in the dove field. If you are more interested in conformation lines, that would be a different list of breeders.

Maybe I misunderstood. When you say papers, are you referring to AKC registration or proof of health clearances? Was the dog purchased on Limited Registration?

all the breeders seem to be out of dogs. Has anyone found good dogs on craigslist? there are a number of good ones available.

No. That's going to depend on your definition of good.
