I'll second Shells really good

I would recommend that $14 Frito pie they have on the menu.

We've been taking a trip or two (or three) down to Port A every year of my life, and here are my thoughts:

-Seafood & Spaghetti Works - Visit it at least once per trip, as man as three times. It's very solid and reasonable pricing. As others have said, the salad bar is a hit.
-La Playa - Our favorite Mexican place
-Port A Pizza - OK pizza, good price, and we end up getting it carryout once a trip
-Macdaddy's - Solid bbq/southern (and seafood) for a change of pace
-Beach & Station - Great find a few years ago, will be back
-San Juan - Good/cheap tex-mex
-Cancun - ok/cheap tex-mex
-Billy Joe's - Great beer selection and service/knowledge of beer, food was surprisingly good too
-Stingray's - decent bar/pub atmosphere and OK food
-Bluewater Cowboy - Neat newer place on 3rd floor, nothing too impressive to draw us back
-Irie's - had it once, and likely will again (more of a lunch spot, which we usually don't do)

-Virginia's - Not impressed AT ALL, but end up going every now and then based on view/atmosphere
-Trout Street - Same as Virginia's
-Crazy Cajun - People seem to love it, but not on my list of repeats (been a couple times)
-Kody's - had take-out once, it's not horrible

If you can catch a redfish.....clean that fish....put it into a baggie and take it and let them do their butter and garlic magic with it, Kody's will become one of your favorite places.

....and you should try Lisa Bella's and Roosevelt's since it is now reopened. I will be down there next week and see if RV's is as good as pre Harvey.

I always go to San Juan on Cut-off Road.

That butter and garlic is magic. My cousin guides out of Port A/Aransas Pass and he pointed me to Kody's. We also take our fish to Jay's for their catch and cook.

Tuesday of next week....

Haven't been often...did not enjoy Shells. Blue Water Cowboy was our favorite.

I will be down Wednesday to Sunday, fishing with my cousin Levi Price on Thursday. Already planning on going to Jay's Thursday night for dinner.

Jays was as advertised. Richards fish withe a salad was as good as a seafood meal could be without sauces to make it heavy..

Good service.

Sitting on the deck of the condo watching folks coming thru the dune access road of the condo, having drinks.

Jay's has been very consistent thru the years. I will usually get a big plate for the salad bar and get the soup of the day. Likewise I know Monday is Cream of Mushroom day and it is really good.Maybe I should say sad on my part.

The waiter staff is trained by one guy and he has been there for many years. I have always admired Jay for using a lot of local high school kids over the years and they do a pretty good job.

I'm way too cheap for a $14 frito pie Sunchaser I just likes their pepper tuna and pasta

We were fishing...after that elusive tagged redfish . Did very well, but alas, no tagged fish !

Sunchaser...my favorite soup there is the tomato and basil...don't remember what day that is available, but it is damned good. They make pretty good margaritas, too. My limit is one since we have to take the ferry back home.

Everything I've had is good there, especially their gumbo, but I refuse to sit inside haha.

You need to get to Port A more often. Unless it's changed they are listed as "Permanently Closed."

It shut down and was torn down four years ago in lieu of a RV park.

So where then is the best place in town to get the ubiquitous gulf coast fried seafood platter?

I would say Jay's.

We were down for a fishing tourney earlier in the thread. Lelo's opened a bar where The Wildhorse Saloon was. We gave it a try. Mixed drinks were great. All they serve beside finger food is burgers and they were large and good.We had four burgers along with three mixed drinks and a Sprite for the 14 year old....$60

Best burger in Port A for me.....we went back the next night. Next to LaPlaya.

I'm not a local by any means but we were down there a month ago and our fishing guide sent us to Fins. They made a fine fried fish and shrimp combo. On a side note, next time I'm down there I'd like to meet up with you Sunchaser. The thread on NW80 makes me want to meet some of you guys when we have the chance.

We were there for 4 days and ate at crazy Cajun twice. I thought the boiled seafood was awesome and they have some great house made seasoning.

No problem, I'd like that. I really have only been fishing twice since Harvey. I've on the board of our complex and involved with the near total rebuild. My previous 2-3 week trips to Port A are now 2-3 days. We should be in by the start of next summer

I've all but given up on Virginia's unless it during the off season. Like the atmosphere but the food isn't near good enough for a 1-2 hour wait.
Was at Trout Street a couple of weeks ago & it was better than I ever have had there before.

I noticed the Salty Dog had the old wood structure torn down & replaced with a soulless metal building.
They lost character but I'm sure they made up in smell.

.....but you will have a couple of places to park....

No hidin' parking around back either. Park up front where EVERYBODY can see who's there.

I can walk over there....no problem...

Good timing for this thread, we'll be there over Labor Day weekend.

We were there last weekend and the water at the beach was about as nice as I've ever seen it. Saw a guy catch a little hammerhead on Friday and another set of guys catch a little black tip (or at least I think that what it was) on Saturday.
