Sometimes you can find cool stuff to buy on Facebook. Hopefully this isn't against the rules but a friend of a friend makes some badass Damascus steel knives and I had to get some.

Lots more than just pocket knives...

(Yes i realize that it's knives not knifes, unless Joe knifes Bob), but that's the url)

They are knifes because they come from pakistan. Yes they are handmade but they are made by hand at a company over there and resold by this guy. Its unfortunate when people are misleading like this(not the poster but the guy who leads people to believe that he is the one making them by hand in Brazoria TX) when there are tons of guys out there who do make amazing stuff through a lot of hard work. A few of them he may have actually put a handle on himself but most are 100% pakistan made including the sheaths. I will say that I've seen some of the pakistan made knives that are decent quality so its not the quality I have an issue with its misleading people.

Just looked at the website. If it's correct the knives are made in Pakistan, he is absolutely misleading.

I own a material supply business for knifemakers and other artisans so I see this stuff a lot and have personally dealt with a lot of the Pakistani companies that make and sell these knives and seen guys like this who resell their stuff. For me it's easy to tell just by the patterns and handle materials because I've seen others selling these same exact knives. Same patterns, same materials(usually a lot of bone, ram horn, buffalo horn and unidentified colored wood handles come from Pakistan), same Damascus etc..

There's nothing wrong with buying a knife kit and putting handle scales on it either. That's fun and there are tons of people who do that and many start out in knife making that way. Most of what this guy is selling is not even that though imo(I'm 99.9% sure of it). To his credit in some of his recent Instagram posts it looks like he is actually starting to try to put some handles on blade blanks himself and even making a few kydex sheaths. however, you can tell on the couple of knives he has put handles on that the quality of finish is not as good as all of the other ones he's been selling for the last year. Kind of odd that his skill would have regressed. Looks like he started selling the "handmade knives" and has finally started trying to get into doing some of it himself. The recent scales he is using in his IG posts are $35+ per set and the cost of time and materials to forge a billet of Damascus to make one of those knives would make it impossible to sell them for $130. .

This is like TexanKnives.com who claim to be a small knife manufacturer located in Houston selling handmade knives. That is sort of correct. They are small, located in Houston and selling handmade knives/damascus. But the knives and Damascus billets they sell are all manufactured for them in Pakistan. They are always very careful with how they word things on their website and in person if you ask them so they give the impression that they are selling knives they made by hand in the US when in reality they are in the US selling knives made by hand by someone(meaning a guy in a factory used his hands at some point to do something to it) in Wazirabad, Pakistan.

Sorry I know that was long but I wouldn't make a claim like that if I wasn't very sure of it.

I've done business with you on Ebay multiple times and it's been a pleasure!

I've always suspected the same was true with a well known company out of South Carolina with the initials WKC. I'm sure you know who I'm talking about. He calls himself a knife maker, but I think he just makes beautiful knife handles and sells them for sky high prices. It's a shame that people are that dishonest.

Anyone who makes knives and posts them on IG gets bombarded with these Pakistanis who try to sell these exact knives. Some of the goofier patterns are very recognizable.

I have that exact cutting board. Wish I had two knives like those to use on it.

Apologize for potential thread derail. Do you have recommendations re a good quality knife kit to purchase for a retired engineer to get them started on this as a hobby??

Looking at the website, I am left with the question of "why would you ever want a Damascus filet knife?"

Interesting. My wife got me a knife almost exactly like those for Christmas a couple years ago. She said it was a local Texas blacksmith she bought it from. I like it enough but wasn't real impressed with the quality. The blade is pretty loose when not locked and it doesn't stay sharp at all. This might explain the quality issues on it.

I like this guys work. He is slow because he has two kids and a full time job in the eagleford . his imperfections prove that they are hand made. But hey I have fun. I mean he has fun.
