Shot a big 10 point buck and while we were taking pictures, a herd of hogs walked out under a feeder about 30 yards away. Unfortunately we had already put the .223 AR up and all we had was my bolt action 270. Two shots later had a pig down.

tracking a group of deer with my dad in the hill country, crawling on our stomachs to sneak up on them. We got in range and I got the kill.

Watching my son at around 8yo hook and land a 26 inch speckled trout on a soft plastic, was a hoot. He has the pic framed and on his wall. Fish was a beast!

Quail hunting with my granddad in west Texas. He had a couple surplus WWII jeeps that we'd take the mesquite scrub searching for coveys.

Killing time in the deer stand with dad during a cold snap. I was watching bobwhites play on the dirt ranch road through the rifle scope.

Suddenly a bobcat leaps out of nowhere and takes one out of midair. The quail barely got a foot off the ground before the cat hit it. Pretty cool when you are 12 years old.

My most memorable fishing trip was surf fishing with one of my buddies a couple of months after getting home from deployment. We didn't catch much, but it was a great weekend.

It sounds simple, but I always enjoy fishing with my family wherever we travel.

Too many to think about, so I'll go with my first buck at age 8 with my dad. Three point monster which is now used as a toilet paper holder in my dads workshop bathroom.

My senior year, I was lucky enough to take a weeklong camping and fly fishing trip in Montana with my brother, uncle, uncle's friend and his two sons. Went on horseback nearly 10 miles into the mountains, seeing some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen, fishing some of the coldest water you can imagine, and making tons of memories that will last forever. Side note, the day before we even started the trip, we found the closest running water we thought we could access where we could get in some last minute casting practice, but were quickly, yet politely, asked to leave what we found out later was Ted Turner's property.

Probably most memorable was dove hunting with my 12 yr old in 2017 and him getting his first kill. He was pumped as was Dad!

Catching my first marlin in Okinawa, Japan with a lure that I made. Really had no idea what I was doing, but luck and a little skill made it happen.

I told my wife jokingly that I would catch one that day and it happened. Nothing epic, just a little 11 foot fish. I caught it at the start of the fishing day and only 15 miles offshore.

Lots of memories to choose from but have to go with my first backpack elk hunt with my brother. First rifle season in Colorado and we got way more snow than what was expected. The first night in the tent our water bottles froze solid along with our water filter pump that we put between our sleeping bags in an effort to try to keep it from freezing. Didn't get an elk but made some memories that will last a lifetime.

Hunting turkeys with my son during the spring season. He called in two nice toms and we each drew a bead on one, he counted to three, we fired and bagged both of them. Pretty cool moment for us!

Pulled in a 6 foot 105 pound wahoo in Florida after losing a 1/2 a sailfish the same day to what I assume was a shark. Sail was putting up a great fight then it just went dead. I thought I lost it until I got it to the boat and it was gone form the mid-dorsal back. Definitely a day to remember.

Hard to pick just one, but I'll go with summer of '94 we had a small family reunion at Monument Lake in CO. Fishing from the bank and trout weren't hitting any artificial lures. Me and cousins start catching grasshoppers and using those as bait and couldn't reel them in fast enough. Caught enough trout to feed the family reunion (around 15 iirc) and had everyone else around us catching grasshoppers too.

This one hits home today. I grew up fishing with my dad and grandfathers. Lots of early mornings, many trips in the 2-man boat with dad. Lots of flashlights in the eyes to wake me up my one grandfather and sitting on the bank with the other waiting for bites and smelling him smoking his pipe.

One grandfather passed away in 95 when I was 13. The other passed this morning at 93 years old. Lots of great memories that I hope to pass down to my daughters soon.

When I was in school we used to set up a pop up camper at Reed Arena and Kyle Field to get tickets to games. The best one was when an ice storm hit before the Kansas game and about 200 tents were collapsed by the ice. We had space heaters and a stove for coffee in the morning. Good times

My first time dove hunting.... I didn't really know what to expect and had never been hunting before.... Next thing I know I am out in the field with about 10 other guys (friends & family), birds are flying everywhere, and we are having an absolute blast mowing them down.... It was a great introduction to hunting and a hell of a time.

My best memory was when I shot my first buck. I was 10 years old and hunting with my dad in South Texas. It was the most exciting thing I had ever done up to that point and I will always cherish that memory.

Most memorable hunting experience was when I was out hunting turkeys while in HS.

Was scouting the area the afternoon before. It got dark and when myself and my two buddies got back to the truck and were driving off....we saw a UFO.

Watched it for probably 20 minutes and it came down close.

Talked with the landowners the next day and they had an experience where it had landed in a field.

Hmmm.

My most memorable experience was quail hunting with my Dad. Quail hunting allows interaction that other types of hunting does not. Watching the dogs work, talking about past trips, and sitting by the fire after a long day are just some of the rewarding memories.

Too many outdoor experiences to choose from. The one that is sticking out the most in my mind at the moment is dropping my first 8 point when I was seven with my grandfather Putter Jarvis ('53) in the blind with me and then field dressing it at his direction.

Back in '07, some buddies and I decided we were going to camp on North Padre for the entire week of Spring Break. We'd do some fishing, frolicking, and just enjoy a week away from everything. The first day was great! Sun, sand, fishing, etc. We caught a beautiful red and fried it up right there on the beach. That night, however, the winds came...and boy did they! Parts of our camp started getting torn apart by the wind - then the coyotes came and raided our neighbor's camp (buddy's sister) and ate their food. The next day, the winds never stopped. It was miserable. We decided to pack it in and head back home to the hill country and spend the rest of the week at the ranch. Was it fun? Parts of it. Would I do it again? Maybe. Was it memorable? No doubt!

Favorite hunting memory.... Fall of '17. Bucket list trip to Canada Waterfowl hunt with Travis Schneider and NPO. First morning, we killed 48 ducks in 75 minutes or so. Had a mallard fly literally 8 inches over my gun barrel.

Good times!

Backpacking the Grand Canyon from South Rim>North Rim>South Rim in three days in March 2014 with Aggie and SMU buddies. The north entrance was snowed in so we had that side of the canyon (literally) to ourselves.

The 5 lb bass I caught when I was 6 yrs old, with my dad. We were in a jon boat on Scoby Lake outside of Angleton, TX. Was using a yellow jitterbug lure. Have yet to catch another freshwater fish that size.
