So one of my kiddos would like to go hiking this weekend (I would like to continue to encourage the outdoor appreciation) and we were thinking about heading over to Davy Crockett or Sam Houston parks for a change. I believe they allow hunting at these parks (for sure Davy Crockett), but I'm not real knowledgeable about when and where and would like to stay out of everyone's way. Can anyone advise? Any other info would be much appreciated.

Both allow it, i would discourage hiking in Sam houston this time of year. But if you do go make sure you are covered head to toe in orange.

Davy Crockett and Sam are not parks...they are National Forest.
They have good hiking trails but most are out and backs and will both be crowded with hunters.
There are lots of state parks near those locations that will have better, improved, loop trails. Huntsville state park , lake Livingston state park, and Mission Tejas state park are nearby

Thank you so much! And yes, I probably should've made the distinction instead of labeling everything 'park.' Laziness on my part.
I really would like to visit them sometime , but if people are trying to hunt right now then it's better if out family doesn't go crashing through the forest scaring off the deer. I guess I'd better look up when the season ends.
Have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving and beat LSU!
