We had our deer camp ripped off twice south of Berclair, TX back in the early 80s and had the same question, but we had probably more brush than you do in Nevada, and the dads in the camp were notorious "get it done inexpensive guys".
One of their refrigerators had died about the same time the first break in, and we found some brush about 50 yards from our camp house and stored our lanterns, cast iron cookware and other camp valuables/tools, etc in the newly camo painted refrigerator with a latch on the doors. Cheap, obviously, and "waterproof" with the latches installed properly. "Free" and effective. The second time they got canned food and a spatula and not much else. All the critical stuff (no electricity/water, so similar to your situation) was in the "fridge".
Remember, anything you do is just a deterrent and spending a load of cash, especially in a remote area with time to spare is just that, not thief proof.
"Green" is the new RED.
