I tried really hard to search for any posts about this, so apologies if already discussed....

I've been seeing lots of ads on my Facebook, and they've got a new Kickstarter going for the Ranger. It's a smaller version of their Bonfire fire pit.

I have a covered patio with 9'-10' ceilings and good airflow, so I've got a couple questions if anyone owns or has experience with them

1. Do these things burn as clean as they say, and do you like it?
2. Is it stupid to think of having even the smaller version in a covered area? I assume yes

I had to look this up. Someone took a washing machine drum and turned it into a hipster patio firepit. Brilliant.

It'll go great with my cooler stereo. (actual picture after we built it, but before I added the marine sub)

I'm curious too. I've been wanting one of the big ones since they came out with them.

But based on the performance of the little backpacking stove, they don't sustain the clean burn, and I wouldn't put it under a porch. And it would be a pain to put wood in while burning.

But I still want one.

I have 2 of the Bonfire version. They work as advertised. They do go through firewood pretty quickly. I don't smell like smoke after standing by one.

Be sure to clean out old ash after use to keep the vent holes clear.

Seriously. These work fanastic for fire pits. I asked my local appliance store guy if he had any, and he gave me one for free that was sitting behind his shop.

$300?? Wow.

When I was at A&M we lit a fire under a Skaggs Alpha Beta shopping cart and used it as a grill. I guess some of you are too uppity for that, too.

Well, I am a hillbilly so it works out fine for me.

Pretty sad thread for the outdoors board. They've made a name for themselves worldwide as a compact camping / backpacking stove if you would prefer to use wood over liquid / compressed fuel. Something like that used to be what got the outdoors board's attention.

This is just a larger backyard version to capitalize on the customers that love the camp stove / camp fire versions under$100 that can get you boiling water in under 5 minutes in cold conditions. Basically a wood burning jet boil.
