Possible group buy... Euro optics... Meopta?

So, I've been wanting to bring something European in store. Swaro won't do it. S&B... after going after Night Force unsuccessfully twice (still on my short list, just huge buy in)... is going to be too large of a buy in. I can already get some Zeiss so after talking to Meopta several times and having them come out to the store to show me things, I have to say that I'm pretty happy with going with them. Besides, with my love of CZ, Czech optics fit, right?

Realistically, they do really fit the niche I want to hit with the store and they are chomping at the bit to get in here. The benefit to us is that I really don't have a good high end hunting optic company available to me, outside of Leupold and Zeiss. Plus, the spotting scopes that are available to me right now are... just good. I don't have anything for someone that wants something really nice. So, with all that in mind, I'm thinking Meopta could be a great addition to the store.

So, thoughts? Big "MEH"? Awesome?

I've been in the market for a better pair of Binos for about a year now. Looking for something better than the $400 pair I have now but not quite in the alpha $2400 range. I would be very interested in checking out some meopta options and seeing how they compare. Good pick up for the store.

I have Meopta binos, they are really great. My brother in law got them for me. He has a whole suite of Meopta rifle scopes and binos. I wouldnt mind upgrading a rifle scope to a meopta if the price was right. Too early for christmas group buy??

If november would be a better time to do it, we can, just figured right before hunting season would be a better time. I'm flexible on that.

Is this one where you'll be able to post pricing, or a "pm for pricing" buy?

Can't post pricing but it'll be a percentage off.

Although I can't speak to their scopes, I can put up an opinion on the Meopta binoculars (no surprise to the regulars here, I think....). I do like Meopta binos as a whole. At all the prices levels they compete in, they put up a solid product. Although the Meostar is not my favorite bino in the ~$900 range, I do really like their mid-priced Meopro line. Especially the 8x42 Meopro, which is one of my favorites in it's price category.

Of course Nikon, Leupold, and Votex put up a pretty good line of products at all price levels too, so don't forget them. But you can find those just about anywhere, so no reason to compete with your local Academy Sports. Meopta binos would be a great alternative for someone who is looking for something that not everyone else has.

Also, I bet if you did a Nightforce group buy, the OB could "pre-order" a good chunk of that initial required buy in...just sayin

Cool, nearly contacted you for your thoughts on this before I posted it, just didn't want to bug you. Makes me feel a bit better about bringing them in to have that opinion on them.

That was always the plan. I need 15 scopes pre ordered for me to take care of the rest. Wasn't quite doable. Otherwise, I only get like 10% off and it's not even worth stocking them for that.

Meopta is pretty good. I came very close to purchasing a Meopta bino 5-6 years ago. In fact, I would of purchased the Meopta binocular had I not received a hand me down.

What do you think pricing would look like?

First buy would be 15% off. After that, probably the most I can do is cover the sales tax/shipping.

Hey EYEGUY, just curious but my BIL was saying he heard that the CABELAS HD Binos & Riflescopes are actually made by meopta? You ever hear that rumor?
AgEng06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've heard that. Their Euro line is supposedly made by/with Meopta, and they also used to have a line that was made by/with Vortex.

Well dont have to ask, just checking the Cabelas website the scope has dual branding on it

Ok, so the Meopta deal is going to be a go. I'll post it up Monday officially but if you have questions, cell is 346-775-8363 and we can talk prices. Worked out really well with the Weatherby buy so texting me to ask questions and such is probably a good idea here. Then we can jump into a phone call for more in depth convos. Discount is looking at 15% off on this. Now, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place on timing so here's how this is going to go down:

I AM ON VACATION THE 14TH-20TH.

I will be on a boat in the middle of the ocean with my beautiful wife. Rule one requests are not granted. I am an only child and never learned to share.

I've already sent paperwork in so it's not like the first Costa deal that will take me getting the orders all set before getting the account set up, so we're already good there. I have an account. However, future hookup on this will only be sales tax off. They don't give enough wiggle room to do much more than that. So, this will probably be the only time there's ever a "sale" on Meopta except when I have overstock or if they run a sale on something, but I have a feeling that doesn't happen often.

As such, my first thought is to run it for all next week and then shut the orders down next saturday, place the order and they get in right after I get back. However, if there are a lot of people that will want to order, because the opening order is the only one that I'll get an extra discount on, I'll delay placing the order until a week after I get back. I really hate splitting it up but I really don't have much of a choice on it. If we don't go now, the stuff won't be in until mid to late november, well into deer season. So, we're kind of stuck with it.

Opticswise, these are great units. You know I don't bring anything in without that being the case. Caladan already spoke up on the binos (which, I'll be honest, are the main reason I want them in) and the rifle scopes/spotting scopes are very much up there in quality as well.

One thing that is cool on this buy is that their new dichromic optics are going to be a part of it. I actually got to play with one in store this week and they are awesome. Basically, they are a non-powered reticle system that is red. So, you have crosshairs but they are translucent red. Pretty cool setup on them.

One day, I'll rival Optics planet in the lines we carry, but that's a long way off. This is just a step towards that. I also have some one off things that I'll be posting up at a discount for next week to get moved.

And, if any interest, I think I can work out a deal for either an RPR or a nicer hunting rifle, scope and rings if anyone is interested in a turnkey package.
