Costa Warranty?

I thought that Costa warrantied their frames for life. I dropped mine and the frame broke right at the nose piece. Reading their website it seems that they determine what is normal wear and tear. Is this correct? Have they changed it or am I confusing them with Oakley?

Thank you.

I have broken Oakleys and Coastas and a few others and none of them replace the frames under warranty when they broke due to my irresponsible actions.

Just fill out the form and send them in. They will tell you if it's a warranty claim or if not, how much the repair cost will be. They usually fix everything for pretty cheap.

Dogs chewed up a $225 pair of mine. Totally destroyed. I sent them in with a note of what happened. A couple weeks and $25 later, I had a brand new pair.

I will do that. Fell off my sweating face loading the truck to go to the coast on Monday. Thought about just going to buy a new pair, but in the back of my head it was "No problem, that is under warranty." If being a dog chew is under warranty then I will give it a shot. I have two pair with broken glass lenses sitting and staring at me right now and just need to send them all in to get repaired.

Something like that probably won't be covered for free under warranty, but it's not by any of the big guys. I mean, they didn't exactly design these things to cover that situation. Warranty is for wear and tear... generally hinge issues and the like will be covered though.

What about the paint/finish peeling and bubbling from I assume sweat and sunscreen?

I've shattered glass lenses on them before, and it was $80 for a new pair under their repair service. Send em in per the instructions on their website.

I have two pair. Pair A I've sent in twice because the rubber part came off the main plastic part. $11 each time no problem.

This is what happened to me, $70 is still better than a new pair.

Yes, they will repair or replace...likely replace. If its an older model like FA-11 they will likely replace with the heavier, newer plastic.

I sent in my pair that had a crack on the nose piece. I never dropped them but I could see it propagating over the course of several months just from taking them on and off my face which is what I would consider normal wear and tear. Finally they completely came in half. I considered this a design flaw to be cracking at the nose piece from only taking them on and off. I sent them in and they did not agree that it was a design flaw or normal wear and tear. I called them on the phone which is a nightmare because you could be on hold for up to 2 hours or be placed on a call list and if you miss a call, they will not cal back and you have to wait again on hold. I finally got a hold of them and said how crappy the customer service was and that I disagreed with them on having me pay the $60 repair costs. They finally said all I had to pay was the $12 processing fee and they would give me new frames so I did that. I have found that many companies will honor a warranty if you complain or word it right because they do not want a returning customer unsatisfied since they will probably make more off of you in the long run of buying another pair later.

For what they charge for glasses, and what their supposed intended use are, I would expect them to be A LOT tougher than they are. I would definitely send them in and see what they will cover. I wouldn't hassle with this for my 15 dollar pair of glasses, but for Costas, I'll argue a rep into the ground, but I also find quite a bit of joy with negotiating these kinds of things and ending up with more than I am owed on paper. LOL.

Usually this is successful, because for every one of these, there are about 1000 of my buddies who will just throw them in the trash and buy a new pair.

Send them in and see what happens, $50-$80 is a whole lot better than $300.

One pair I sent in because the rubber around the ears had ripped and was coming off. It was a model they no longer made so they sent me a new pair of my choice for free. Another pair I sent in with a cracked frame, split right at the nose like TexAg 2017 and they replaced them for about $50.

I had mine for 6 years and the hinge at the screw started to crack. I sent them in and they replaced both arms and told me they noticed a chip in the lens and it would be $20 to replace the lenses and the arms.

I had the earpiece on a pair of Costas snap a few years ago. It was really random- I had them on my face and a keeper attached to the end of the earpieces, when I slid them forward off my nose to take them off I must have hit a stress point or something because they randomly snapped.

I'd think that was a manufacturing defect. Anyway, I sent them in and paid for S&H and whatever the processing fee was and they repaired very quickly at no additional cost.

Also keep in mind, sometimes it depends on what they are replacing. Cracked glass... yeah, 99% chance you did that one. On the first Texian order, one of you guys had one broken at the hinge within a couple days due to a youngun climbing around on him like a monkey, I believe. Costa was trying to make him pay for that one and I called in and went to bat for him on it and I am pretty sure we got it taken care of for him. One thing.... they pay their staff X number of dollars. If they believe they are going to have spend Y number of hours on you and X*Y is close to what they are trying to charge you for the repairs, they'll go ahead and just call it a day and move on, especially if you've started escalating it up the tree to the higher ups who make more per hour. Additionally, the each level of customer service pretty much wants the ones below them to take care of the problem. 2nd level up isn't that big of a deal for them, as they expect a fair number of those. Once you start getting higher up on the ladder, the person really starts expecting the people below him to start taking care of things more and they only want to deal with serious issues. This is true at oakley, Maui, and Costa, though each have their own quirks.
