I have always used Starbrite to clean the yellow off my hull. It works like a charm. Recently I had some friends tell me that it is terrible for the gelcoat. Have my Texags friends found the same to be true? If so, what do you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

I have used it for years on multiple boats w/o any ill effects. There are other brands that caution you to avoid getting it on aluminum trailers which makes it useless to me.

I do clean the hull in sections quite rapidly and hose it off before I use the cleaner on another section.

Try The Works from the dollar store it's cheaper and just as effective. It does remove the wax so keep that in mind

You have to wear gloves but muriatic acid diluted in a spray bottle works great. Fiberglass guy showed me this trick.

Don't make it too strong. It'll blow in the wind and burn your skin. Well, irritate you're skin is more like it.

Spray it on. Wash it off. Will not hurt the hull it'll be the cleanest it can get.

Don't get it on aluminum. I only use it in the outside. I don't know if it'll hurt aluminum. It's never hurt my trailer but I wouldn't trust it. Same stuff in pools with aluminum cleaners though. Not sure about that.

Maybe someone else can chime in

It is not hard on gelcoat. That's what it is designed for. That said, I don't use it on the deck because it can be harsh on seat cushions, aluminum and any anything that's been painted. For the deck of the boat I use the Star Brite deck cleaner and I always finish the job with an application if Woody Wax. The deck cleaner has PTEF which is a protectant but it it isn't near as effective as Woody Wax.

If you are just removing the yellow water stain, lemon juice is the answer. Cheap and innocuous. Will not hurt gelcoat or trailers. No gloves needed unless you have a cut. Try it- you'll thank me later!

Starbrite does not hurt the gelcoat FYI
